It is fair use, but that's only good for the Americans. Of course dubya is only interested in exporting the restrictions to the rest of the world, not the rights ("rights exports" are only for those with oil). So we get the DMCA, and all of your evil copyright extensions, without the fair use provisions. Hoorays!

  6. Re:The King and the Chalice (only for Experts!) on Your Favorite Math/Logic Riddles? · · Score: 3, Informative

It's a terribly written version of the "warden and his prisoners" problem, which you can google. The only difference other than confusing language is the original problem has two on/off switches, and each prisoner must flip one, rather than one that can be left alone.

*Spoiler* Don't read the following if you don't wanna know the answer:

    1) The prisoners elect one of their own to be a counter, the rest we will call non-counters.

    2) When a non-counter comes into the chalice room, if he can he will put the chalice right side up. If it's already right side up, he'll leave it alone. However, each non-counter will only do this once. If he's already flipped it in the past, and it's upside down, he'll leave it upside down.

    3) Every time the counter comes in, he checks the chalice. If it's upside down, he'll do nothing. If it's right side up, he'll flip it, and add one to his count. Once he's flipped it n times (n being the prisoner count), he knows everyone has done it. If the original state of the chalice is known, the problem can be modified so he only needs to flip it n-1 times.

I felt I should step in with some explanation on the Neo-pegan regligion. The basis of the neo-pegan faith is that we are all beings borne of the heavenly plastic basket, but are cast upon the backyard of sin at birth.

We strive to live by the 3 washing tenets:

    1. Thy levis shalt be hanged waist-bottom, lest the water of sin descend thy pant-legs and lengthen thy drying.

    2. At all times should the tshirt thy soul be hanged outside-in, for the unholy light shall fade thy good.

    3. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife's panties.

It is believed that if we live good and holy lives, we will eventually ascend onto the holy hills hoist and forever bask in the blessed breeze of drying.

Am I the only person who was 8 years old when I came to the realisation that some people get more, and to get over it? There's always someone who makes more than you for doing less. There's always someone who can eat what they please and never gain a kilo while you stress out about that pie and your waistline. That's just life. If you let your happiness be tied to something you can't effect, and that doesn't affect you in any other way, you're destined to be an unhappy bastard all your life.

Bullshit. This is exactly what RMS wants. He wants people to have to give away the source for any web app you use that is based on gpl (3) code. He hates the fact you can get linux, add to it, and farm out the services you create via the web without giving away your source. That is the only reason for GPL 3. to stop the people using the license he's been preaching for a dozen years and charging people for the software while not giving source to go with it. You may agree with him or not (I choose not coz he's a flaming nut) but don't pretend that's not what he's angling for.
