Microsoft still does the same thing. Take directX for example. If you download it and install it, it won't work without a reboot. But if you pay for the "corporate" version, it miraculously doesn't need a reboot any more.

Definitely.... Down here (au) it's Lego, too.. You play with your Lego, and it's made up of Lego bricks, or pieces... The first time I head somebody say "legos" I was like 15 years old, and it was the most horrible wrong-sounding thing I'd ever heard.

Haha, that reminds me of my misspent youth, back in the days of "running around rooms munching pills and listening to repetetive electronic music", I came across the discovery that the best thing in the entire world for "the grinds" is a lego tyre. All my pac-man buddies loved me for that. Old squinto the magnificent even complained about not having a lego tyre on new years just past :)

    Oh cummon, it's on topic!

We don't think "the efforts by environmentalists to get global warming under control as an attack on America and The American Way Of Life(tm)". But a lot of us (myself included) do think that global warming is just something that happens... You know, mammoths, ice age... and do you see any glaciers out the window? That's right, earth's average temperature from year to year naturally swings from century to century, aeon to aeon.... And maybe it's not all our fault, and not something to be desperately (attempted to) put off at all costs?

  7. Re:Pay foreigners US minumum wage! on Tech Firms Defend Moving Jobs Overseas · · Score: 1

The answer to that is simple. Make up the difference in tax. So vijay sixpack working in the call center makes himself a decent indian wage, and dell is coughing up the difference to US minimum wage in tax which goes back into creating jobs over there for americans.

Gimp is the devil. It does a lot of stuff, and it's awesome that we have a Free alternative, but if you're on windows, use photoshop. Or if you don't want to cough the large sum / pirate it, PSP is pretty decent. The interface for GIMP and just the way it does things, is awful. It's like reverse polish notation but without the usefulness.
