    LoTR was good, but best picture it was not. I have to reiterate what someone said above: They used CG when they could have used acting in the three places where "good" characters look evil (Gandalf in Bag End, Bilbo in Rivendel, Galadriel in Lorien).

    And there were several scenes that didn't pass the chuckle test: "I'm trying to help you."

    - It's challenging. No coddling in Nethack. Death is permanent - unless you cheat. You have one save-game per character, and when you save, you exit the game.

    This is the *best* part of nethack, and the reason I keep going back. There is real tension in the game.

    Couple of good rts games that involve strategy: Sid Meiers Civil War series: No Resources, Try to maintain your battle lines, flank and surprise your enemies, and not get flanked. Myth Small Unit tactics, no resources, all action all the time. (Dwarven Grenadiers!) Europa Universalis Grand Strategy, more of a turn based game on a clock than real time, actual economy instead of resource gathering, etc.

    In my first game of Slash'em, I found a meat market, took my dog in, and he ate methodically every piece of meat in the store. The shop keeper did nothing.

    You are correct, however light exceeds the escape velocity of everything that does not have enough gravity to be a black hole.


    One definition of a black hole is an object with an escape velocity higher than the speed of light.


    Imagine an ship traveling from cape canaveral at a million miles an our. It's path is bent by the earths gravity, but there's no way it's going to get into any orbit at that speed, it will just hurtle of into space on it's slightly bent path.

    Doesn't mankind ever learn? The last time we tried to attack the elves, we were sunk into the ocean, and besides they've got god on their side, and we all now how crucial that can be in any combat situation.

    You're being a touch too sensitive. LHOD does not portray a world made utopian by lack of gender, far from it. It's a true sciencefiction thought experiment, and avoids being a political tract.

    Don't know if this is a planned outage or what, but I was able to hijack my old dialup's dns.
