  1. Re:Why not just buy a Palm? on Texas Instruments Announces New Calculator · · Score: 1

    One word: buttons.

I would never want to use a palm as a replacement for a calculator, even with the best calculator software loaded onto the palm. A touch screen is not a good interface in that it doesn't give you the sort of feedback that a good set of keys do (the keys on my HP 32SII and 48GX are incredible). I have a great RPN calculator loaded on my palm, and it's great for doing the occansional calculations when I don't have a real calculator available, but I always go back to a real calcuator whenever I can.

I know this won't have the functionality to serve everyone initially, but this is more than enough for those of us who's needs are simple, and if it fares well in the market it should only get better. I'm so fed-up with Office right now (price plus lack of abililty for it to do as I say) that for my needs this may give me a way out. I'm impressed by what I've read so far, enough so that I've pre-order a copy.

Is anyone else tired of the fact that it seems that a new Palm-based PDA is coming out every three months? Although it's great that there's competition in the market now that there are other manufacturers in the game other than Palm, at least there used to be some stability to the models offered. Now with Handspring, Sony, Handera, etc. in the game new models are coming out at such a rapid pace that I think it's going to have the opposite effects on consumers. Rather than upgrade to a new model from a different, or even the same, manufacturer, people will hang on to their current model for longer than before.

There were so many people contesting the tickets, and winning on the basis that the pictures couldn't prove who was driving the car at the time, that they eventually scrapped the system.
