  1. third photo is probably the more common way to see on First Stereograms of Mars from Spirit · · Score: 1

I was actualy surprised to see the first 2 photos, using the "cross eyed" method. I am fairly used to seeing stereograms in chemistry and biology textbooks, and they have exclusively used the second and third photo group method for viewing stereograms - kind of a stare into the distance and the image will appear method. The cross eye method (pics 1&2) seem more tiring to look at for any length of time.

Read this book by Oliver Sacks (ISBN 0-684-85394-9), the famed neurologist (the movie Awakenings is about him).

Anyway, one of the small stories in the book is a bout a man who had a very minor stroke which affected the area of the brain that only recognizes faces. The man would recognize people by their voice, rhythym of their walk, etc. Oddly enough, too, is that the brain did not 'know" that it had been affected, and the mans brain could not grasp the fact that faces exist. Fascinating stuff

  6. I'm posting w/ 2.6 now!! on Kernel 2.6 Live CD From Gentoo · · Score: 4, Informative
I must say that they (Gentoo) have made it pretty easy to install. I've been using Linux for a year now as an end user (Mandrake and more recently Suse) and I found this easier to install than I thought it would be.

There are about 20 pages of instructions on howto install the system, which after I printed it out, was much easier than I thought it would be. There is a large selection of software available from their site (games, sys utils, etc) and the whole system makes installing them very easy. The time spent compiling the program is prolly about as much as I would spend looking for it (and dealing with RPM hell)....

Overall it feels very snappy/quick and very consistent (I was beginning to find Mandrake a little flaky after 2 years of using 'drake).

I dunno, I just like it. Pretty much everyone now has an extra 10 gig or so on their hard drives, and installing this (and the new 2.6 kernel!)is pretty fun.

MOst PSU's are really noisy. I replaced my PSU fan with Panaflo fans and I can barely hear them even up close to them. You could also try the PSU's made by Seasonic - the quietest fan cooled PSUs on the market - much quieter than Vantec /enermax /coolermaster /allied/antec. A bonus for the Seasonic PSUs is that they're fairly more efficient than almost all other PSUs, and that translates in BIG electricity savings if your computer is on 24/7

Of course I've water cooled my system and put inside Panaflo fans on the case and PSU.
