Well, yes, I'd say that speech recognition is inherent to most of the /. crowd. Sure, there's most likely a few deaf geeks, but I think it's on by default for most of us, at least.

No, what s/he's saying is that newbies don't use or need contextual menus. On the mac, all of the options for which you would need a contextual menu in the finder are contained in drop-downs. With your browser, the contextual menus can be accessed by just holding down the button for a few seconds.

Not to nitpick, but if you want software that's "Free to do whatever you want with", that would be the BSD license. The GPL does not allow you to include the code in a commercial, closed-source product, so you can't really do whatever you want with it.

Yeah, those seem to be the 'Killer Apps' of console games, lately.

Hopefully, the Resident Evil series kicks enough ass to bring over a lot of the PS2 crowd, and really give the Gamecube a boost.

  10. Re:Thank God. on SquareSoft to Develop for Nintendo Again · · Score: 1

Most 3rd party games that really kick ass have been released across the board, from what I've seen... there's actually very little on the scene as far as great games go, lately, anyway.

Admittedly, two of those have been GTA3 and MGS:2, both of which are PS2 exclusive.

However, it still doesn't really explain the dominance and agression that people display. It's not simply "I hope most developers go with the PS2". It's rarely a discussion of the system specs, explaining why developers should go with the console. It's always "My console is going to stomp the shit out of yours, because Nintendo is l4m3, and 50n4 r0x0rz!!!!!!!!!!!1111"

It's just overdone, and rather lame.

    "Kicking some Gamecube ass"?

Are you getting paid for this?

Honestly, I've never understood why it is that consoles have to be "Warred" over. We're talking about large corporations, who are fighting each other in the market place... and there is space for multiple consoles in the market. Why is it that every console owner seems to want their console to have a monopoly?

Actually, I think that, although no one said "Shit", and no one died a predictable hokey death, Zelda 64 (Both of them) had very well done storylines, as well as being quite difficult and having the best gameplay in the industry.

There's something about Nintendo. Sure, Sony is better at "Gimmicks" that grab the attention, I'll give you that... but the Nintendo is really, really good at delivering a game with great gameplay that really never gets boring.

  13. Great news for Nintendo... on SquareSoft to Develop for Nintendo Again · · Score: 4, Interesting

Personally, I've found that the FF series is probably the only reason I would plunk down cash for a PS2. Now that I'll be able to play Mario, Zelda, and FF on the same system again, the Gamecube is the only way I would possibly go.

The one move that would make this perfect, IMO, would be if they would go back and bring the rest of the Final Fantasy series over to the ... then it would be gaming nirvana.

Squaresoft/Nintendo was one of the biggest juggernauts of my childhood, and I'm very happy to see them in the same bed again. The two work together perfectly, and it just seems to flow wonderfully.
