Fine with me. I don't really have anything to hide.
You can't have my CC# because that costs me money (money is not information) but you can have the list of stuff I bought. You can have my medical records; you can have my grades in high school.
Everything is a number in a database, and to be honest, not that important. If you find some info on me, write it up and post it. If you want to make up some story about me, great. I couldn't care less.
The law in the US is the same I think. You are allowed to use a scanner to listen to anything (well, certain frequency ranges are "illegal", but you can't really prevent someone from receiving electromagnetic waves now can you), but you cannot tell anyone what you heard. This, to me, sounds a bit illegal. "You have the freedom of speech, but you can't use it when we don't want you to." Oh OK.
The idea behind this was to prevent Law Enforcement Official from using your radio transmissions in court against you.
Anyway, if nobody can disclose what was said on a radio, then how can you be prosecuted for disclosing the radio transmission. Prove that those were the exact words.
And now the test case. I heard on my scanner today that the temperature would be 65 degrees. Hah! I'm a criminal or something now:)
Nobody's forcing you to buy a new printer. Just use the one you have now to print illegal material. It's good enough.
Same with these future can-only-run-signed-code computers. Don't buy them; your current computer is probably pretty good and can run ANY code you tell it to.
Why not use all paper then? The reason electronic voting is in demand is because people want faster counts. Counting the paper ballots makes it even more inefficient than the current system.
Not really. If you, for instance, use this to cut out parts of model aircraft, you still have to glue the aircraft together. That, to me, sounds a bit harder than cutting it out. This is not technology causing lasiness; rather, it will allow the hobbiest to make a higher-quality model.
I agree with you 100%. Also, even if the US makes laws against spam, it doesn't affect email coming from other countries. Does the US reasonably to expect to prosecute citizens of other countries for sending some email? A lot of spam comes from China, and I can tell you that China doesn't give a damn about US laws:)
Although reading spam can be time-consuming, it's fun to look it after SpamAssassin has added its tags. They're hillaroius; spams are so very predictable:)
Looking at the Qtopia website, Trolltech seems to be dedicated to making desktop software for all major OSes, even Linux:) This is certainly better than WinCE which probably does not sync nicely with MacOS or Linux. Even PalmOS officially leaves out Linux/UNIX (but pilot-link works great!).
Also, Qtopia is open source... I think I want a Qtopia device now:-D (Although none really have the capabilities of my Clie NX70:)
Well, air and other materials have different "abilities" to transfer heat to your skin. For instance, put your hand in a 350 degree oven (not for a long time!) and you'll notice that you don't get burned. Touch the metal inside and you will. So perhaps a 40 degree (celcius) liquid can burn you (it can't because japanese baths that i've bathed in are at 45 and i didn't ge burned...), but 40 degree air can't.
Q = mc/\t, where the c for air is less than that of water. (Q = work done, c = constant, m = mass,/\t = change in time)
Yes, and they came to the US. Stay out of the US, stay out of it's laws.
Now, I'm sure "international law" says that it's illegal to arrest someone for acts done in another country, but since when did Bush care about international law *sigh*
And what can a processor do anyway? Remember that the basic controls are JMP, MOV, ADD, etc. There's no COPYMOVIE instruction. So how would the processor differentiate between movie copying and, uh, differentiation:-D
Basically, the processor is too low-level to do anything. If "they" add instructions to prevent copying, DON'T CALL THEM! YOU CAN DO IT THE "OLD" WAY! (What is it... MOV mem1,reg; MOV reg,mem2;? Oops! Copy!)
SD cards? Actually they're faster than MMC cards, so I guess you pay for that. On another note, I don't see the point of a secure card. Uh... I read to and write to it just like a "non-secure" card. So what if the data is encrypted if I can just read the thing normally!?
I must be missing something, or maybe the SD card industry is really dumb:)
Why not? Just because somone has bad social skills doesn't mean they aren't a good programmer. If you're doing something because you want to, you'll probably do a better job than someone who doesn't _really_ want to (money only sometimes makes you want to do something).
Well, legality or lack-thereof never stoped anyone. Ever hear of drugs? Lots of people use those, and they're pretty illegal.
My point, of course, is that it's only illegal if you get caught. How about someone in Sealand (heh) posts a website on how to build a pass-thru connector. Is it illegal to read that now?
And again, some people don't care if it's illegal!
I have a [USB] wireless keyboard (and optical mouse) from Logitech that works fine with the PS2. All USB mice/keyboards are the same as far as the driver is concerned.
Okay, idiot... crunching video means ENCODING, which can always be sped up. Rember that (these) macs aren't aimed at you, the M$ loving, porn-watching group. Some people use their computers for real work (like encoding video, for TV; or Photoshop stuff, for ads and the like). Okay!?
Play DVD's? WTF? I use my Palm to store appointments, notes, etc., and run a lisp program once in a while... why the hell do I need a DVD player in my pocket? PalmOS tries to be a clean environment for an organizer, it's simple and nicely laid out. Windows/PPC or whatever it is tries to win you over with pretty colors and crappy handwriting recognition. It's trying to be a desktop computer with 64M of ram and a 2" screen. I'll take my TiBook, thanks:)

> I'm not allowed to publish your Social Security number
But it can be done. 348-12-9876. There. Don't know whose number that is but it got published. Cry me a river; information was meant to be free.

Uh, isn't Limewire Java? It sure is on my machine! :)

Yeah, in the US. The other 5.75 billion people in the world don't live there.

Even if they wrote the copy protection, they'd probably forget to put it in the release
Mmm. Great point. So maybe someone should write an emacs KPart.

emacs, dammit :)
:-D
emacs doesn't lend itself to integration into GUI apps very well; it eats too many keys. So i guess I'll have to just use emacs alone

Right. Because those big buildings are hard to locate without someone's glued-together snapshots.
I'm _so_ tired of listening to people say that every new idea is "terrorist" or something.
Yeah, pictures are good, right after you figure out what they mean. Example: Chinese. 60,000 (or so) pictures. Not that easy to learn all of them :)
:)
Japanese is better with about 2000 commonly used, 6000 less commonly used, and several thousand antiquated/infrequent characters.
Still a pain in the ass to learn all of them
My point is that pictures are nice, but too many of them are hard to learn; too few and you can't communicate.
Wait... for a two hour movie that would take a half hour. You must have a REALLY old microwave :-)
