    Yeah,

    but for crissakes don't use trad distribution channels. A weekly show available via bittorrent would be cool.

    On a related subject with the rendering power of modern GPUs has anybody thought about doing a Max Headroom type show, maybe not music but current affairs or some such.

    Screw SHITY raid go for hardware. Buy an arco duplidisc and two ide disks. Then make regular backups of your valuable data and send them of site.

    Jaguar D Type

    All of these could be seen as scrap metal but to some people they become important. It's the same with old computers, what I would give to run a some jobs on a B4955, nostalgia has great value.

    Given the current malaise of the computing industry looking forward and back to better times is a way of get over the crap we currently have to deal with.

    It means that you should not build intelligence into the net. It should be the dumbest message passing protocol it can be. Multicast would force routers to gain an intelligence level beyond the basic message passing.

    As I understand it, the reason you do not want inteeligence in the middle is that the whole infrastructure has to be upgraded or changed at once. There is a lot of inertia in installed systems so changes are delayed.

    Multicast is not a good option for the internet.

    Yep you read that right. Despite all the research and money multicast fails to follow one of the tenents of the net, intelligence at the edge.

    This is such a great oversight that is dooms multicast from ever taking off.

    The future of TV is something akin to bittorrent. Intelligence at the edges that scales as audience size increases.

    But is it self aware? At present I would doubt it, but maybe in the future, just maybe.

    This I find fascinating. The moral ramifications are huge.

    For starters if it becomes self aware, is it alive like us? If so are we no more than complex machines or is there something else? :-)

    Still have the ZX81, sold the speccy to buy a BBC Model B, sold the beeb to buy a PC. Then started working on mainframes, System/36, System/38 and AS/400, RS/6000 etc etc etc. That Clive Sinclair fellow has a lot to answer for!

    Currently I have a P4 thingy and an old AS/400.

    Also, I'm building some 8bit single board machines. Z80, 6502, 8086, 6800. Good fun, though running them at 1mhz doesn;t really get anything done.
