The only concern about Earth life ending up on mars is that it would make it hard to determine if there ever was or is life there (and even if there was actual life there, I don't care except from a detached scientific viewpoint.). My favorite wackos are those that question our attempts to utilize the moon, argueing that it should remain untouched. Other than the people in South and Central America (and Mexico) (who seem to have a complex about the term American being applied to USA citizens) the term American is used for citizens of my great country. (Side note, but do any of the other countries in the Americas have America in the actual name of their country? And if everyone thinks that what our country produces is such a bad thing, then why are they buying it? Because while we do sell it overseas at a discount (they made the bulk of the profits here) its not like what we are selling is free. If you have such a problem with it, maybe you should look within first, because we are not forcing you to choose it. Members of your own countries are making that decision.

Technically there is a danger of loss. When that product is released here in the states it runs the risk of having the people who own the fansubs not purchasing the product. I am not saying that you would, but that is how some people operate, and it does run the risk of hurting sales of shows that eventually end up here. Just because you are impatient to see the show does not give you the right to break the copyright. They spend a lot of money developing these shows, and just because there is no immediate damage does not mean there is no long term damage.

The whole sitatution has gotten worse lately, with the advent of the digi-subs that are out there, so even the Japanese can download american fansubs(those people more than most are in the most dangerous place legally, as they have high visibility and they generally have no access filtering, so anyone in the world can hit them).

I found the best way to avoid any of this stuff was to keep watching whatever I have on the Tivo, stick the disk in the DVD player, and not switch to DVD feed until a minute has passed (though this did cause me to miss a very amusing joke one time).
As an anime fan, I love the extras that are the disks. The alternate language and subtitle tracks. By far the best use of this was on a very recent disk that came out, "Excel Saga Vol 1" (This starts off with a very amusing take on the FBI warning, and goes downhill from there:) They used an alternate audio track to include a noise when the the alternate subtitle track was being used, such that there was a "Pop Up Video" thing going on.
If you ever need a laugh, this is a disk to pick up (very few shows I know of kill their main character in the first 3 minutes).

On the topic, I dont care if you rip a show, but you should at least own a licensed copy of the media(then at least the property owner has gottten something for the show you have ripped). If you are going to Blockbuster, renting a DVD and ripping it, well.... you suck.
