I believe they are releasing a patch for XP is because it is not specific to XP, but to IE. If there was a fundamental vulnerability within the XP core OS then they wouldn't bother.

According to a friend this works for plagiarizing papers.
This is how to get away using Wikipedia in college. Use Wikipedia as the main source/clearing house of information, but then cite the source information in the article and not Wikipedia directly. How easy is that?
The simulation is occurring in a hotel. It is being simulated to test the response of officials. Not to test the response of security professionals. There is a production company who is providing scripts to security professionals. So I am sure the officials will be asking the security professionals for updates or detailed information, which will be scripted. It is like a table read for a television show, (ie Saturday Night Live), where everyone sits around a table and reads the scripts, without actually being on a stage, with make-up, lights, and cameras.
This is both highly illegal and unethical. Illegal in that they accessed the PCs without the owners permission, they sent spam, and changed the settings on the computer.
Unethical even if their motive was not to do criminal intent.
It is like creating a "white worm" to patch servers from an unpatched vulnerability.
Helpdesk is not a dead end. Unless you have a victim mentality. I've worked my way up from the helpdesk at several companies and passed by a lot of the helpless helpdesk victims. Now I work at my dream job doing information security for a large government contractor. Some tips to pass on:
1. Find a company or industry you want to work in, then join their help desk. 2. Find a company with college tuition benefits and who will pay for certifications. 3. Get some certifications towards the area you want to work in. 4. Let them pay for your college and educate yourself into a better job!
Also, general company wisdom. If you have a problem with no solution, you are a troublemaker. If you have a problem with a solution, you are a mover and shaker!
Hey NBC: I have chosen not to have cable, but want to pay you for Heroes. Guess what my only alternative will be if you pull it from iTunes?
1. NBC is a OTA broadcast station, you can receive it without cable. 2. Get a OTA Hi-def antenna if you want higher quality, and get it for free. 3. Wait and buy the DVD. 4. Download/buy it from their new partner (whoever they are). I'm sure NBC will NOT stop selling it online, just not through iTunes. 5. Download it from Bit-torrent like my friend and if you feel bad send NBC a check each month.
That is my way to clean my keyboards. If I need more of a sanitizing clean I just spray any cleaner I can get my hands on into a paper towel and wipe the keys. That keeps it hygenic.
The OP did say that they took her down the Sheriffs office to be finger printed, probably for a match with local and state records. Not to keep her finger prints on record. Anyway, they could just lift the prints from her work space.
The RIAA is not anti-pirate, they are pro-copyright! According to the article, Brad A. Buckles, executive vice president for anti-piracy at the Recording Industry Association of America, said, "A sound recording is either copyrighted or it's not. So, if I understand correctly, DJ Drama's work may not have been violating someone elses copyright, it was that his original work was not copyrighted and therefore illegal? So, he must be stopped, at all costs! Think about the kids... think about 'em..
You should check out any episode of Justice on FOX. They go through boxes of documents. They even scan all the documents and search for keywords for all the documents. It's also a really good show.
Dude, the people of North Korea eat leaves and twigs to survive. They are constantly told that South Korea and the rest of the world are worse off than they are. The only pictures the news shows of North Korea are of the millitary. Old busted ass Russian missile vehicles, the millitary, and Shorty Mc-Il. God forbid the rest of the world actually see the attrocities this mad man is unleashing against his own people.
[soapbox]But don't get me started on why the UN did not do anything when North Korea first uncapped their nuclear reactors. They should never have gotten this far.[/soapbox]
From reading the Reuters article the inventor said that a German newspaper falsely reported that dead cats can be used. The inventor was never really quoted about using dead cats. He said it was quite possible that it would work. However, he has never used animals, except for maybe a frog that jumped in the mixture.

But then again, I'm bitter for not having my correct version of the story accepted.
I worked at Convergys, a tech support sweat shop, and had just been switched to Dell 95 support (I had been supporting Gateway NT4.0 systems). A user calling in had an error, the team lead, who was like... 16, told me to delete C:\windows\etc (or something), and reboot, because Windows would re-create it. What did you know? It didn't recreate it and I was stuck on the phone for 5 hours reinstalling every little piece of software and change very little configuration on the end users computer because I hosed it out.
It did teach me a very important lesson. Never delete, all ways rename.
Another Convergys story, a kid who worked on the Dell account was troubleshooting a womans CD-Rom drive. He told her to touch the power connector to her tongue, like a 9 volt, to see if it recieved power. ZAP! She got more than she bargined for... unfortunately the kid didn't get fired because he was buddy buddy with the supervisor.
In a related story, AOL will purchase IBMs PC unit for an undisclosed amount of cash and stocks. One important change to the new AOL PC will be that the caps lock will permanently be on.

No, really, it was my friend. I believe it was a one time only case/example.

because 90% of Slashdot folks went to college
And you know this amazing fact... how?
"Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything. 14% of people know that. - Simpsons"
And college in Florida is not even remotely close to free.

They said they wet the sponges in waste water. Not that anyone trying this should wet the sponge before trying it. Those two things are different.

If you have to ask....
"...with the new DVD players needed to view them"
Didn't we learn anything for the ill fated DIVX pay-for-play format? Didn't we?

And speaking of URLS, here is the link to the manufactures website.
This thing reminds me of a human version of a hamster ball.

It isn't a terrabyte DVD, it's a terrabyte of HDD storage.
