please, oh please show us the piercing stares of the children whos lives have been shattered. show us the widows whos futures have been destroyed. we do need to see the families of victums that whoes very lives will be forever changed by the cruel deeds of one vile outlaw.
wait a minute, you mean to tell me that a toy maker goes to jail for making toys?
just tell your friends who ask why you changed vendors the following:
"the service that vendor offers is more expensive than i'm willing to except". then state the business rule the vendor uses. you can even add on why you think its to expensive, but don't bore people with the painfully obvious.
just tell the unvarnished truth. leave off the acidic modifers. and if the other person disagrees with you, well, its not like you lied to them. ( of course you can smile real big when your friend comes back and starts screaming and ranting before telling you why their so upset);)
if you have owned a vw bug, then about the only thing that will do any meaningful damage to the bug is to throw it down a gravity well; maybe.
i know for a fact that michael mayers, ( of friday the 13th films), weeps with envy on the vw bug's ability to rise from the dead. i have pictures to prove it!
well, it looks like new o.s. time. all support required nt 4.x shops will have to change o.s.'s by july. a lot of those nt managers have thought that just buying new licences for win-2k will be good enough. but what advantages would exist if relicensing was taken out of the mix. i know its worth a persons job to suggest this, but sometimes demoing a linux solution, using the same application software can have positive results. espiceally during these very hard economic times. there aren't that many businesses that can 'just pass the cost on to the customer'.
i wish all nt managers luck, the above worked for me and doubled my salary.
the nature of coding is a time constrined task with dynamic conditions. its not that one operating system is better than another, ( the basic functions are all the same). but i believe that when faced with a problem, its how the problem is solved. currently the linux community is offering constructive solutions that are quick and insightful. i think that what we are seeing is a change in how solutions to problems are to be generated. sadly, i see that the inflexablity of older systems are offering arrogence in exchange for abilities to solve problems.
now i have to go and buy the game to see what these wise leaders made their conclusions on. i hate being driven by a marketing model in which i have no say in its outcome. ( other than to decide on paper, or plastic).
sure, that's easy. but you have to adjust your orientation. an as400 usually is the main object in a room. there are tape drives, disk drives, and printers there also. there is a room that has 'off-line' data in it. this data is stored on tape, and disk, ( i don't know of any rooms that store punch cards anymore). there is no robot that can load paper forms into a printer, and also get backup tapes, or disks that is ALSO cheaper than a person willing to be a computer operator.
i believe when there is this multi-re-programmable robot that can do what operators do, and is avaiable for sale; then computer operators will go the way of punch cards.
i remember calling mr. osborne's machine a 'lug-a-long', because its power supply was very heavy.:)
an osborne computer was used as the down-payment on my first house. it ran on cpm, using dbase ii, word star, 1200 baud external modem, an external 5Meg hard drive(nick named the 'corvis wine-ing shoe box because of its size and noise that it made when powered up), 16K-RAM, calc star, the printer was a 9-pin dot matrix, and c-basic. i remember then that 'menu driven systems', and 'modular' programming were emerging methods of good programming style. both seller, and myself thought that we both had a good deal.
given the above statements; employers get a certain look in their eye. its the same look a wolf has when they see a wounded deer.
ok, what can be done about it.
consider the history of mass layoffs/extinctions; this happens about every ten years for us workers. an industry acquires more people to do the job than there are jobs, (thanks to the h1-b folks this time around).
ok, what can you do about it?
there are some rules that i apply that have helped me.
1. you can only bargin from a power position. this statement is heartful, but true.
2. adaptation is the ability to survive. right now its the housing market, apply your skills to this group of people. notice how i wrote 'people'.
3. is were you work at a pit? try working for yourself. you'll see what your boss gets to live with. you may like it, you may not.
4. complaining at work? are you insane? in southern california there are 1000+ resumes for every computer job opening.
5. leave work at work. rediscover your friends, and family. no one ever died in bed thinking what fullment their lives would have been if they had just stayed at the job one more hour.
6. cheer up, growing up has never been easy. this problem will make you stronger, wait and see.
1. 'hackers' are specialist, these people are masters of their choosen field of study.
2. 'script kiddies' is a term to that is constantly applied to 'hackers'.
3. 'script kiddies' is also a term coined for how to tweak/crack/hack/break/abuse microsoft products, and by the people that are able to do it. in some cases it can be proved that above actions are an improvement to the orginal product, but this will be left up to the reader to reasearch.
therefore it is at this point that hackers become extinct; with respect to microsoft.:o)
i know sadam hussen is a world class nightmare. it's not his religon, it's him. i also know that his biggest weapon of mass destruction is his ability to persuade.
but what if the weapons of mass distruction aren't found?
hmmm, i have this image of bush junior being lead away by interpol in handcuffs screaming the same thing over and over again, "sad-ham DOES have weapons of mass destruction!!!".
i understand return on investment. but the industry is moving to 64 bit. weather it's intel, amd, or some other cpu chip maker is not the issue, it's who is going to lead the market is the issue
imagine how web pages could look like if there was access to 64 bit processors. we could start to finally have 3D shopping sites. we could see explosions of the product. applications of the product, and even comparisons. consider this argument: "the ability to create products, simulate performance, apply the product to all known laws..", ( hmmm, i think i've got a new patent concept here...).
Then apply known marketing models to see if people would even buy the item. Uppppps, that spaming. Never mind...
of all the characters of the LOR, smeagol is the one most imitated. how does he do it? my children are looking at a mc donalds milk shake, then i hear "we wantsssss it".
the only other line to have an impact is when the hobits are alone on the lookout mountain waiting for strider. to this day by blood runs cold when i hear "crispy beacon". when my daughters want to tweak me, they use that line.
ya know; if you don't have the money, you can't buy it. maybe those 'overseas' employees can now afford the goods and services that they are making for the buyers in the u.s..
your data is in a file i have sold to a 'list' company the moment you opted in. and you are never told this because it's none of your business how i generate my income.
the 'list' company then is free to sell the list as many times has it wants to because it's none of your...
i can see nasa's view point of which is cheaper, a space shuttle, or a shuttle crew.
but consider this argument, "have the ability to go to the i.s.s. if there is a problem."
something else is nagging at me, "could the first 30 minutes of the desent on final be slowed down such that given sloppy tile replacement, that inceneration of the craft is 'greatly' reduced?".

now i'm looking for a key code on my red hat distro. darn, i guess its a windows problem? :o)
ender's tactics involved the exploitation of an oponents weakness in logistics. also, ender's solution was to cause the aggressor to not attack again.
consider the traits of google:
1. it works.
2. i don't have to let it into my life more than what it was designed to do.
3. it works.
4. IT WORKS !
5. the complexity and functionality are at a relitive minimum.
6. it works.
7. it works.
8. IT WORKS.
9. IT WORKS.
10. IT WORKS !!!!!!!.
i hate being so apathedic, maybe i should learn to express my feelings more? i think i will now; linux ROCKS!

the d.o.d. bans use of a device that only the bad guys can use?

business men in the p.r.c.? chairman mao must be turning over in his grave.
so uhmmm, these educators are going to use wind-blows as a good foundation to build on? :)
