Lol. Where did this notion of the US being 'great and worthy' ever come from? 'Coward and bully' might be more accurate, and I'm not just talking of Bush.
Gmail's spam filer is good. But I find it hard to check for false positives as I get 1500 spams per month. I get about 5 false negatives per month. It's been a good fire and forget solution for my parents who really don't like the less savoury spam.
It's trying, and making progress. Thanks for asking. Modern science would never claim to have all the answers, it's simply trying to fill the gaps.
It seems to me that working logically on a problem is better than desperately asking your imaginary friend to sort it out. When I was young and got into trouble I'd desperately rely on my parents for help. Now I'm a big boy I have to sort out my own problems.
Fair points. Buddhism does seem to be a bit more realistic in its acceptance of science. I still don't understand how wasting energy in the pursuit of superstitions, imaginary people, etc is constructive though.
"Bloody hell it's hard to know where to start you are so ill-informed." I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm informed at all. At least I've grown out of having an imaginary friend;-)
Religion is for people who want to believe in fairy tales, live in trees, eat berries and die of the first trivial infection, anything else is hypocritical. Meanwhile, those of us in the real world will use science to improve our lives.
The trouble as I see it is, the religious types feel free to enjoy the moral high ground of being 'enlightened', but are still perfectly happy to enjoy the advancements of infidel science. Hypocrites.
Isn't this the same situation as with all open source software? Flaws could be found in the linux kernel and exploited on live systems for private gain. However, many (even us bipartisan/. readers...) would agree that security is increased by being open sourced. Security by obscurity is no security and all that.
Kudos to Linden labs for this, it's a fairly grown-up attitude to their IP.
Actually it should be quite easy to dispute fraudulent debits to your account. My bank (LloydsTSB i the UK) assumes responsibility for debits that are disputed. The bank tries to reclaim the money back from the merchant, and if it can't it swallows the cost. Of course that cost reflects back to the customer eventually, but at least it's spread over everybody rather than the unfortunate few.
I don't dispute the insecurity of chip-and-pin, but the insecurities affect everybody with a bank account not just those unfortunate enough to have had their details used fraudulently.
You are missing something. It was described as 20 seconds to start up from hibernate, which macs only do if power was interrupted during a sleep. Otherwise it starts in 4 seconds from sleep.
My macbook starts from sleep within 1 second and about 10-15 seconds from hibernate (sleep + power interruption).
As far as the user is concerned macs don't make any distinction between sleep or hibernate. Not so good for energy conservation I guess but better user experience, IMHO.
"Get a Mac" - as much as I like this idea, that sounds like an idea that would just change the targets of viruses and worms from Windows-based platforms to Mac-based platforms. They might be more secure - but how frequently is a Mac targeted in preference to a Windows system?Ahhh, the 'macs don't have viruses/worms because they are less common, and therefore not targeted' argument. Except that OS 9 was less widely used than OS X and had many viruses. And which virus/worm writer wouldn't want to be the first successful writer for OS X? I don't think that there can be any doubt that OS X is being targeted.

Haha, an utterly pathetic response. DanielNS84 - you've been owned. You've got some balls to suck. Get to it, shitbag.
You make good enough points about the UI issues but fall down with the apache vs iis comments. These are server issues and frankly you should be prepared to get your hands dirty if you want to muck about with it (unless you just want to be owned?).
Are you unable to read for yourself the post from Apple yourself, pushing an agenda, or just plain fucking stupid? Apple have quite clearly stated that they are, above everything, upset at themselves for allowing this to happen.
Yes they made a jibe at MS, but frankly that's deserved. Name an equivalent virus that could have been involved that infectes OS X? One? Don't say that the smaller market share of OS X means it's not a target, viruses always affected OS 7 and 9 and they had a far smaller market than OS X. Frankly the fact that OS X has no viruses means they are far more a target than windows
Childish and uncalled for? Apple should apologise? You're a fucking twat. They have quite clearly apologised. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, but on this issue (OS susceptibility to viruses) Apple live in a fucking castle.
True, slimserver is written in perl and the source is available at the moment, so if push came to shove it could be installed from source but I'd far rather apt-get it from a slimdevice official resource rather than have to install all the dependancies and set it up manually.
Speech has never been free, we just look into the past with rose-tinted glasses.
Remember, the only point of democracy is to try to minimise the corruption that comes with power - it's only the fear of being voted out that tends to keep the politician bastards straight (yes, they are _all_ bastards). They constantly erode the process of democracy to protect their own positions, then every now and then the bastards hit the wall in civil war. It's the big circle of society:-)
Civil war within in US/UK or Aus within 200 years?

Junghans do some great watches along these lines. Great looking too.

Easiest answer: valium.

No? Call me when they do and I might convert.

With UK ATMs the money doesn't come out until the card has been removed.

Fine. Just anything but virii :-p

Sigh, it's 'viruses'. And anyway the latinized pleural version would be 'viri'.
Bah, I can't login with the username I've created. I'm using firefox on Mac OS X.
New britain. Everyone's a terrorist unless proven otherwise, especially if you run.

Windows sharing/SMB works fine between virtual machines and os x in parallels.
