LA? C'mon! You should know it's THE 5. All roads here start with The. The 101, The 60, The 110, The 405. I've never heard it called I5 since I've lived in LA.
I used an old Sony Discman for the on-hold music at an ISP I used to work for. It lasted around 18 months playing continuously... That was totally insane.
We tried to start using OO on a couple of our machines here, trying to avoid the Microsoft tax, and it was a terrible disaster.
OO is great if you deal only with OO format, or RTF documents, but until the Word and Excel compatibility improves, it'll be impossible for us to switch. I'm sure the problem is with Microsoft's format, but our users don't care about that. They just want things to work right. OO has serious issues when it comes to.xls and.doc formats.
I'd switch over every desktop tomorrow if the compatibility improved.
right to privacy? What right exactly is that? Where do you get that from; please explain... In the Constitution? Really, indulge me. Are you talking about search and seizure?
I can get the ipod from apple store using my student discount... $269/$369/$469
only saves $30, but you could use that to download all those new songs from itunes.
... while we're on the subject/debate of PDA vs Graphing calculators, I should mention that there is an excellent (FREE) graphing calculator program out there for PDAs. It's called Easy Calc, and it's a pretty rad little program. It's no HP, or TI, but it sure is smooth for being free.
this isn't a troll. It's true. How many people have switched to dotster, or another.com registry service? True, we do use them for resolving other peoples domains, but I haven't paid them anything in years. Verisign as a registry does suck. I'd mod the parent up as informative. dang, slashdot
I was just talking about this yesterday with a co-worker... Sometimes real books are just better, but when I see that a set of encyclopedias is $1,395, I think I'm sticking to the online method.
It makes me wonder what people's libraries will look like 50 years from now...
This is the dumbest thing I've seen in this thread yet...
sure China and Russia have more freedoms if you talk about warez and copyright law, but look at things like freedom of speech/press, freedom of religion, and other freedoms you are taking for granted.

did anyone else read this as Night Vision Google? I've been on the Internet way too long.

In case anyone is wondering, the ebay auction is here.

to boot my linux boxes in less than 10 seconds, and I only have to use 1 command to accomplish this!
/etc/rc.d
[root@linuxbox]# rm -rf
[root@linuxbox]# shutdown -r now
This exploit also works great on your co-worker's windows computers. Just replace %computername% with their IP address or computer name.
I have written proof-of-exploit code! Here it is! Use this with extreme caution!
net send %computername% "You are screwed! Upgrade to Linux."
I've seen several people comment about Microsoft Bob... If you don't know of, or don't remember MS BOB, check out http://toastytech.com/guis/bob.html
Also the rest of this site is quite entertaining....
I've seen a couple people commenting on RedHat's support for reiserfs. To install a redhat box on reiserfs do this:
1) boot from RedHat cd/floppy/whatever
2) at the boot prompt, type: linux reiserfs
That's it. Many people think that RedHat doesn't support reiserfs befause it isn't available by default.
to us reiserfs on RedHat:
step 1: boot from CD
step 2: at the boot prompt type: linux reiserfs
step 3: ?????
step 4: profit!!
This is the dumbest thing I've seen in this thread yet...

How is China and Russia more free than the U.S?
Was I the only one who tried to type in commands at the "hacked" root prompt in the flash presentation?
News for Microsoft. Stuff that matters.
