They code crap. My personal experience with not to big software company's is they like to sell crap if they can and most of the time the other company also sells crap and after wards you dont even own the software you buy. Software bussness sucks atm.
Until the world wakes up and start demanding that software needs to work just like material stuff or else they wont buy it. It wont get better in the near future aslong we except crap from even big company's like Microsoft, which is becoming more reliable and stable but still sells a awful design if you ask me. oke maybe start a flame here but most software is like throw a way dishes instead of a rolce roys. And i think company's like microsoft showed the smaller software houses that its oke to sell crap as long it sells and it bugs me cause software has a bad name, but i know good software exists, bla bla bla, you got me pissed again slashdot....i hate humans;-)

Your programs wont run much faster, although some will but thats just pure logic, dont need a benchmark to tell you that if you use special FAST instructions of your CPU that the result prolly will be faster, why the heck did they invent those instructions other wise ?.
But Gentoo on a Desktop feels a lot faster since it uses some kernel patches which make the proccess a lot better responsive (preemtp ?? forgot the name). I think this is what you feel right away.
Also what other allreaddy said and i can back up it starts application faster.
I have installed Gentoo on a P150 with 64MB and before that it ran slackware and latest X, but mozilla was too slow to use allthough it used XFCE as a desktop, now after 4x48 hours compiling it runs still slow, but faster;-) its workable now. it even runs evolution (though it has very long start up times).
Consumers tend to find holes in in these situations with in days normaly, cause loads of people will try to find a fault in the system and every system has a bug. Eventualy when they dont find the flaw, someone starts a new company which does it difrent and that smart person will make millions since everyone wants his stuff:) you gotta love this world, you can try to fool them, but it nearly never works unless you find a way to force them, but i dont live in china or the us =)

Since it can partition any disk type. so you can remove linux or other weird partition type's you cant with MS-DOS fdisk. So now when you dont know how for example linux fdisk works, cause its plain more complicated then the MS-DOS fdisk some folks are used too. Then get your selve a copy of FreeDOS fdisk. It has the same interface as MS-DOS fdisk, but much better features:-)
Ever tried installing windows when you allreaddy got linux installed, wow thats hard, cause your linux wont run anymore then, i didnt even bother. (its not possible to make windows dual boot with other operating systems from within it self)

The on reason i am not buying a laptop, the short batery life!
I need atleast 8 hours or more, i cant cope with 3-5 hours come one, meaning you cant go out camping for a day or two three and use your laptop for some time, unless you take loads of spare bats with you..
I wouldnt run WinXP on 128MB, auch i know even win2k uses 80MB with default install doing nothing. So winXP cant be better or can it ? what happends when i start using photoshop and internet explorer ?
256 MB with Linux should be enough to let it run smoothly.
But again i wouldnt even take a computer with only 128MB for free, come on! you need more Mem these days, period.
