Indeed halflife is the largest actively played windows game out there, but anandtech dosent benchmark on half-life. It would seem they're attempting to rectify their reputation as a company that puts out crappy drivers or as a company that has good cards that never see their potential.
Microsoft sells only software (unless you count those stupid mice and keyboards).
They also sell that xbox thing maybe you've heard of it, and what ever became of ultimate TV, their set-top box? I wouldnt put selling more hardware past microsoft. As they see their operating system become less and less a strong point and more options emerge I think they'll need to seek new revenue one way or another.NET, XBOX and possibly other things with capital letters.
Careful not to dig yourself a bigger hole with your ego (you are), it would be unwise to shoot yourself in the foot with that large a weapon. You're right we know nothing about you, but they say first impressions are very important and I agree with them. Again, you've probably hired people so you should know. Just get the job done, you don't have to prove every second of the day why you can get it done, just shutup and do it.
And you know here, mongo (steve mcmichaels) said we were gonna be a practice squad this year at the cub game where he got ejected for singing take me out to the ball game after heckeling the ump. EAT IT MONGO! GO BEARS!
I think everyone knows that guy who at a moments notice of trouble waves his hand in front of the servers jedi mind trick style and all is right with the world again. That guy is worth what they pay him because his technical chops are just that good, his skills are too honed to ignore. When the crap hits the fan you want him on your team.
The truly sad thing is that demand for broadband is and will remain extremely high, these companies seem to have issues either meeting or exceeding costs of service. I know more than a few people who'd kill for a persistant connection it doesnt even really have to be 'broad'band. We all know what a fiasco ordering dsl can be, and cable while usually better as far as service can be hit or miss performance wise. I was on cable for the past four years and moved to a place that doesnt have any broadband options other than satelite (which is plain rediculious for the cost/performance) and have at least once a month checked on the status of it in my area. Long story short it's been almost a year, we have digital cable and verizon moves on it's own time and has no incentive to move quickly to capitalize on 'new-high-growth-potential-consumer-broadband-mark ets' so for now I twiddle my thumbs and consider moving again, only checking on the status of availibility before I move next time.
The upgrade treadmill they have people on is rather striking, they service they offer is compiling all your software for you and selling it every few months. Are they really adding anything new that can't be gotten anywhere else? no. Do some people like it that way? yes. Essentially they're just adding new software updating versions etc and saying "here's our latest greatest distro" which is fine, but people need to recognize it for what it is. Every couple months is a "new distro!" no it's not a new distro, it's the same stuff that was in the last just updated.
I agree, it's getting out of hand umpteen hundred licenses all with similar intent but different semantics. The day when it takes longer to decide which license to choose instead of which project to work on is the day when people stop having fun and stop scratching itches.
It's not the government engaged in taking away your freedoms, it's terrorists. If you're willing to fight for them join the military and do it. Who was up in arms about personal freedoms before 9-11, sure there were a few issues being quibbled about but nothing as bad as the current situation. Oh but now that it's in your living room it's time to fight, but when it's in some other country or not affecting you it's not a problem at all. This is a generation of self serving people, all information all the time, everything right here right now. We've never faced hardships REAL hardships that threaten the very fundamentals of how we live, until now. I'm not even sure sacrifice is a word in our vocabulary. I'm guilty of it too. We have no reference point from which to judge how bad things are or how bad they may become. I say lets be as prepared as possible for whatever may happen. I can't even think with all the what-if's being thrown around.
I agree with you on one hand but on the other its hard to reconcile the crime with the way it was committed. Multiple targets highly orchestrated, planned years in advance with essentially weapons of mass destruction, the equivalent of one kiloton of tnt. Not exactly a truck full of fertilizer though it's damage and effects felt just the same. I think the method of attack certainly makes me feel like this was worse than Oklahoma. I think the nation understands that we must be patient while we gather evidence and investigate. Had this been an act of a government the attack would have been an act of war, that's something that is also difficult for me to reconcile along with possible support from other nations who aided the attackers. Its almost like an attempt for a rogue nation to claim absolution, send in some "terrorists" who "we don't support" in order to get away with mass murder. Granted that hasn't not proven to be the case but it doesn't sound improbable at all.
Seriously, there are still over 4000 people unaccounted for still it's only been three days, and you're worried about people reading your email. Lets put things in perspective if only for a moment then you can go back to being paranoid. The price of this attack is being payed with what I believe is the temporary bending of the rules if my isp decides to cooperate without being issued a warrant, after all I'm subject to certain types of monitoring in the tos already. While I dont want to be monitored I can understand the temporary need to gather as much information as possible, the question we need to ask: Is it worth another attack because we couldnt retrieve vital information that might help in stopping it. I think the answer is no. Granted in the future when things settle down I would not want to be monitored but under the circumstances I can understand it. As for the alteration of encryption software to suit the government, it's a laughable idea. You'll do anything to help you say, anything but this? Things will go back to normal just not today or tomarrow, it will take time.
Since there's a relatively concentrated ammount of ambient particles and whatnot here on earth, how would we get rid of the black hole? I know at least that they dissapate naturally when no energy is availible to feed them but since our environment is not that case what can we do? Could we transport it elsewhere?
Solution to "rpm dependancy hell", try debian or progeny. dpkg really is a better solution, coupled with apt it's indespensible, It makes for less time dealing with install/configuration/dependancy problems and lets you spend time with what's important to you, the software. Having a catalogue of software at your fingertips which you choose to install when and how you want is nice.
Reminds me of anands review of the MSI kt7 pro2a, first it was praised as a stable unwavering titan winning the kt7 shootout last november-ish. Anand then converted a couple of servers only to find out that the product was severely flawed randomly rebooting for no apparent reason. This prompted him to basically flame MSI for their bad support, while simultaniously running nice big MSI advertisements all over the front page.
No I don't endorse your product, but I'll happily accept your money for ad space. Now this is one event and I don't visit as much as I used to (back when anands was still somewhat navigable) but it was a striking conflict of interest. How can you review hardware given to you for free (presumably) while also advertising the very same product or those of possible competitors who may choose not to advertise. In any case I still think for the most part Anand's does a pretty good job all things considered, I can live with the ad's though I'm always thinking "wonder if they get any kickback or payola for this?" Oh well...

Let us remember, microsoft did not invent the GUI or innovate with it.
Check out the mine, it's certainly more expensive but I think it lends itself to a greater versatility, USB is a limitation though.

In the end there will be a great battle between good and evil, and evil will probably win.

I guess T is for Taliban today.
If I were a pokemon I'd be vigglypuff, I would live to vanquish picochu.

Speaking of redundant, I've still got XLII karma, so be on the look out for more +II posts.
OS 10.1 perhaps OS X.I suits it better. "OS X 10.1" seems redundant.
Wonder where they're headed.
Thanks lameness filter the world is safe without the ability to link to pictures! bleh.
