I've seen it happen where it didn't work. The kid simply gave up and became a loser, doing nothing, failing every class in school, etc. What then? Wait til they're 18 and let them sink or swim on their own? Without even a HS education, it'll be pretty hard to make enough money for food, let alone play any games.
Right now power plants are responsible for 21% of the greenhouse gasses. Nuclear plants provides 20.6 percent of our electricity. Coal is just over 50%. Hydro amounts to 8%. We'll just say that greenhouse-gas producing sources amount to 70% of our electricity generation.
Lets say we double our nuclear usage from 20% to 40%. That cuts the CO2 producing methods to 70% of their current levels ((70-20)/70). We've just cut our total CO2 production by 6% (20.6 - 20.6*.70).
The question I pose is: Which would be cheaper? To cut all CO2 producing activities by 6% through efficiency improvements or using different methods, or to double our reliance on nuclear power?
I'm not trying to be anti-nuclear. I believe we should increase our usage of it. However, fixing one thing won't solve the problem, and forcing one industry (or group of customers) to bear the costs wouldn't be fair either.

I realize this could never happen, but deep down, I feel we'd be better off if we had a law that people were limited to 5 accidents. After that, they had to drive a sub-compact car. If you've been in more than 5 accidents in your life, you suck at driving and shouldn't be putting others at risk by driving anything larger than a VW rabbit.
Of course, this is totally unrealistic. But it annoys me when most of the bad drivers I see are either in giant trucks or large "granny" cars. I'd even say all people over 75 shouldn't be allowed to drive large cars. Sorry, any 2 year old child is worth more than some half blind, barely concious 80 year old woman driving a caddie.

I'm no expert, so it's possible that I got something wrong here. IIRC, amd licenced some 1T memory tech from a company a while back which would cut the size by 5. If you just did the z-buffer and 2 million pixels (high enough to do 1080p and 1600x1280), you'd need 8MB (4b/pixel), which would take up the same amout of space as 1.6MB of cache (though there'd be no need for tag ram). If you included the framebuffer, you'd need 20MB (10b/pixel), which would take up the same amount of 4MB of cache, the same thats on conroe. While this might not be a good trade off now, it might be in a few years when ati/amd products start to roll out.
I think a fiscally conservative politician is a myth. The last several years have proved it. In the end, they all give the most money to the people who put them there -- the donors. There are several cases where the return on investment is over 1000%.
I think if we want shit done, no party should have control of the congress for more than 2 election cycles. They have no fear that the people will revolt and kill them all, so kicking their corrupt asses out every few years is all thats left.
Or if you find black text over a dark repeating photo hard to read... Or if you think putting 12 autoplaying music videos on one page isn't absolutely amazing!!!! Of if you find it odd that everyone seems to know "Tom"... Or if you think using iz for is iz lamez... Or if you stopped us Comic Sans a long time ago... Or if you think the "What X are you?" quizes got old years ago... Or maybe you've just been "on the net" for more than 3 years now.
I drive about 40 miles to work, and in the winter, 90% of the vehicles in the ditch are SUVs and pickups. However, the one that stuck in my mind was one day it was snowing really bad and a young girl in a newer taurus-like car passed me and another car who were going less than 35mph on the highway (and we were going a little too fast for the conditions). About 5 miles ahead I saw her car upside down, in a ditch on the left side of the road.
Moral of the story: it's not the car you drive, it's the driver. If you drive like an idiot, you'll get in a wreck.
PS: I've notice that the worst drivers seem to drive the biggest vehicles. IMO, if you've been in 5 or more wrecks, you should have to drive the smallest vehicle made.
Some employers do not allow Firefox for some reason.
1. Web developers. There are a few websites our users have to access that only work in IE. Some work fine in FF, but the developers say they only support IE. Some don't.
2. It was hard enough switching a few people in the IT dept to firefox, I can't imagine dealing with the people who insist on putting "www" infront of every website and then bitch that the site won't come up. Even with IEview or IEtab, some users would be completely lost having to use 2 different browsers. They can barely use one.
They look nice design-wise, but they're too wordy. Most people would never bother reading it. I don't do advertising, but I'd say you have 1/2 a second to catch people's eye, and assuming you do, the ad needs to convey its meaning in 5 - 10 seconds. There's a lot of noise out there for people to filter out, and an ad with a lot of words is just more noise.
"SCO is offering cash incentives for developers to attend its upcoming user group conference in Las Vegas in August... attendees completing it will be given US$1000."
If all you have to do is show up (no test at the end), maybe it'd be a good way to help the homeless in Vegas. Maybe SCO could do something good for a change.
Have virtual machines running on a lightweight host OS. The key points would be: 1. keep the main OS as simple as possible so it's fast and stable. 2. allow VMs to use hardware such as 3d cards. 3. Allow any OS to run under the host OS.
E.G. Windows 2009 would only support win2k9 apps and would run as a VM. Old apps would be supported either buy installing an old version of windows, or using a different VM. If you could allow apps from different VMs to run in a window on any VM, you could run MS office in a window under gnome, or a linux app under the windows gui.
The result would be increased freedom for users, and total marketshare for OSes would be greater than 100% (meaning if linux's marketshare increased, window's marketshare wouldn't necessarily drop). This could also result in better, more specialized OSes since devolopers wouldn't take time to implement extra features just to steal users away from other OSes.

if it fails, maybe they'll try for the more cheerful Saint NIC next time.

The eco-conscious buyers are typically replacing vehicles that were already pretty fuel efficient.
It's not like those cars go straight to the junk yard. Someone else buys them, and they might be replacing their old gas gussler.
or just take the hyper-transport and not have to fight the traffic jams.

put the frame buffer or z-buffer on the die.
Governments need to be strong enough to keep others from oppressing its citizens, but weak enough that it doesn't become the oppressor.

I might have to make one, put it a glass case and label it: "Break incase of internet-challenged user" and hang it in my office.

That's one of the problems. Do you trust them to be competent enough to keep all of the data secure for criminals in the public?
Where's the oversight?
Thats what this is all about. People can make a lot more money with no oversight.
3D Realms has no plans on rushing Duke Nukem Forever.
No shit?
