Let's see: Lately, I've been playing: Civ4, Homm5, quake3 (yeah, I still do), and Elder scrolls IV. My wife plays sims 2 and is looking forward to Caesar 4.
I think he has every right to bitch. He's seeing the only number that's provided to him to make a decision on what to purchase. That number is off by a large amount. The problem is that these numbers are useless when comparing between different ISPs.
Imagine if there were no standards on how to advertise mpg on cars. You might buy 30 mpg rated car and get 12 mpg, while the guy next to you buys a 25 mpg car and gets 22. Consumers don't care how the tests work, how you have to drive to get that milage, etc. They care that the numbers are reasonably close and that everyone is tested the same.
I dont know why we computer people feel we should give our services away, but we do. Ask yourself this:
-If your "friend" is an accountant, do you ask them to do your taxes for free for you? -If they're a mechanic, do they fix your car for free? -How about if they're a lawyer, doctor, dentist, hooker, etc.
No one expects free service from other people, why are computer people any different? I'm guilty of this as well. If you're sick of it, when they ask you for help, ask them for help that is relevant to their field. Just hope they aren't a proctologist.
they were expecting 250,000 subscribers and got 6,000,000.
So split it up completely, with different log in servers, everything. Put them in different locations. If they split them into say, 4 parts, if one part goes down, only 1/4 of the servers will be down. Then, they could even spread the scheduled downtime across them so people could log in anytime during the week if they wanted.
AMD making the L1 cache 2 cycle instead of 3 cycle would immediately yield a nice bonus in performance.
General Question: would it be possible to add something like a direct mapped and very small (like 4KB or less) L0 cache, where if it hit, you'd get the data in 2 (or ideally, 1) clock cycle and if it missed you'd still have a shot at getting it from the larger L1? If it was under the page size, could you avoid accessing the TLB (I think early alphas did this)? I'm by no means an expert, and since very small but fast caches dont seem to be used much, I'm sure there's something wrong with the above idea.
I called it L0 because you'd be requesting from both L0 and L1 at the same time, keeping the L1 latency at 3 clock cycles.
I discovered that they actually contained more grams in Sugars than the Serving Size weighed.
The trick is to fill them with helium and list all measuremets in ounces rather than grams. This is one of the best ways to make a 6 oz steak more filling.
anti-virus software is that it is 100% reactionary.
Thank the game companies for that. Isn't it just wonderful that anyone with kids has to give them admin rights just so the copy protection software can run on games?
If MS wanted to solve the problem they could, but they have to fight EA, UBIsoft, etc to get it done. Games are the lifeblood of windows in the home. Take them away and there's little reason for people to not use another OS, whether it be linux or mac. So, without another solution, MS isn't going to fix the problem, the general population isn't going to switch to another OS, and we're stuck with the status quo.
Parents should send him money. How many used him as a teaching aid? "Look, this is why you don't record yourself doing something stupid." It's atleast more acceptable than using the celebrity sex tapes as examples.
I think you took the foot in the ass thing a bit too literally. If you can fit a shoe in someone's ass, then they have other issues that need worked out. I wear size 13 so maybe it is more feasable for someone with smaller feet.
BTW, I'd say dropping rocks off an overpass onto moving cars would be enough of a reason to find out if the shoe fits.
A pre-built vmware virtual appliance would make it easier to get the foot in the door. The schools or parents could run it on windows without worrying about messing up their computers or having to learn how to admin a linux box. Fear of the unknown is one of linux's biggest obstacle, and vmware type things can help alleviate that.
True, however, if 100+ gmail addresses get the same email then it's probably spam and the host it came from then has a good chance of being a spam bot or open relay*. Maybe google's using it as bait: "Come on... send your spam to 100,000 gmail accounts, I dare ya."

How about "Where have all the New Games gone?"

This is totally off topic, but do you really have a corolla? If so, how do you like it? I'm thinking of getting one in the near future.
