I can't alt-tab between windows in the same program
switch programs: ALT+TAB switch windows w/in a program: ALT+~ show all windows: F9 show current app windows: F10
I have no delete key.
on a mac laptop, pressing Fn+DELETE (the key typically called backspace on a PC that is labeled delete on a mac) will delete the characters in front of the cursor, similar to pressing DEL on a pc
It's the little things like having a scroll section on my trackpad that I miss.
Your jails are full of fellow citizens that dared to smoke pot. That "crime" has been on the books far, far longer Senator.
Your comparison seems flawed. You're comparing making a behavior we've been doing for a long time that may be made illegal to a behavior that has been established as a crime for quite some time (sine hte 20s or 30s I believe)
I love how you open source touters automatically assume that also means everyone is capable of programming. Do you think that every member of a paid/closed software development team writes lines of code? You need more than coders to make an idea work, part of that team is coming up with ideas.
Face it, Mac malware is already starting to appear. Given that (in general) the tech awareness of Mac users is (in my experience) even lower than that of Windows users, the days of Macs being safe from this kind of junk are rapidly coming to a close.
Really now? Can you give me an example? And the "virus" that required you to have phyiscal access (and root access) to the machine from last week doesn't count.
all i can say is thank god iPod Photo is its own entity and hasn't eliminiated the normal iPod line. I want my black and white screen, long battery life, and focus on playing MUSIC when I get my iPod in December.
This could work out. The reasons why I would NOT get a mac are that they are slower and cost MUCH more than equivalent PCs, but more importantly, can't run Windows
This point has been debated over and over, so I'll mention the $799 eMacs (educ discount) and $949 ibooks (also discount) and $1199 iMacs and move on.
But now that Mac OS X is available on the PC (and is fast), perhaps I can use a fast, cheap PC to run OS X.
One solution, PearPC, is unbearably slow for more than checking website compatibility in OS X. The other, Cheerios (yes I know), may or may not exist and may or may not work, and may or may not just be a $50 version of PearPC.
Macs only have a chance vs. PCs because they have very efficient architecture. Apple doesn't have nearly enough money to compete with Intel or AMD, so they use a more efficient architecture.
Why would Apple compete with AMD or Intel? Apple makes computers, and IBM makes the G5s, and Motorola makes the G4. Intel and AMD do not sell computers.
Besides the hardware market, the other reason is that apple touts the fact they package the entire experience - hardware and software - in to one nice little package, and that you only need call one company for support.
take their hardware out of the picture, and that total controlled experience goes away
I also agree on the Timbuk2 bags. I use one for carting my shit around campus, including books and laptop and discman and whatever else. My only advice is get a shoulder strap - I didn't get one and once it gets heavy it starts to hurt after awhile.
I never put my powerbook in it bare however, first that goes in a SportFolio sleeve from marware
those of us w/ color screen cell phones know they're a bitch to see in sunlight
i assume it'd be the same on the ipod... since a lot of people (city workers, college kids, people who walk to work in general) are gonna be using these outdoors, i think a color screen would just piss a lot of people off.
This is slightly OT, but couldn't Apple potentially make a lot of money by porting OS X to x86?
No Apple makes their money off of $1800+ computer sales, not off $130 OS X versions. Take away the incentive to buy that shiny Powerbook or G5 tower and the number of OS X versions wouldn't make up for hte profit loss of not selling the computers.
It is darned service unfriendly. No matter how good you are, you will leave a few little marks on that case when you open it.
Odds are your discman, although cheaper, is service unfriendly. When was the last time you replaced a part in a discman?
Now when was the last time you replaced a part in your laptop? Probably slightly less frequently than your desktop, and slightly more frequently than your discman/ipod.
Some products are designed to be serviced - some to be replaced
That's strange, because when I was at Rutgers (about an hour away from Jacksonville where the park is), everybody I know of called it nothing but Great Adventure.
There's no Jacksonville in NJ. The town is just called Jackson.
i still fail to see why this is revolutionary my intel PC Pro cam back in 1998 had this functionality... you could pop bubbles and play volleyball on your netcam
So you end up pulling up a keyboard shortcut helpfile, and spending the next ten minutes making sure you can match the symbols to the keys properly.
Plus, they love to call the command key by several different names...
The pretzel/clover/apple is the CMD key. The key actually has no text on it, juts a picture of a clover and a picture of an apple.
The weird "T" looking thing is option
The up arrow is shift
The carat is control
Press F9 or F10 to activate expose (for all windows and current app windows, respectively)
use arrows to navigate to desired window
press enter

make an intercom out of some telephones and basic circuitry
perhaps make two versions of one of them - one of raw components simply wired together and another of components on a circuit board
I don't know where you buy your movies, but I haven't bought a feature film on DVD that had ads in the middle of the movie

I can remember the days when The Screen Savers was the type of show that they'd install Linux live on the air, back in the Kate and Leo days

Excuse me sir...
...Thought not.
Can you point me to the nearest shop that sells a sense of humor?

There's an article that discusses Nintendo's censorship for Maniac Mansion on NES
Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom!

That's the same concept as on the 12" powerbooks, they point away from you (top of the keyboard on the backside) and reflect off the screen

I predict that, within three years, and using its patent for color-changing plastics, Apple is going to give you an iTV.
Been there, done that.

It's a good thing this was modded as informative. I almost missed the giant discussion thread on it above.
