I've got a shitload of hard drives, cd drives, memory, CPUs, headphones, speakers, and assorted PCI cards i need to get rid of asap... drop me a line if you want some parts, I'm selling this shit CHEAP, i NEED to get rid of it
Just about every theater in the world with a computerized lighting console has one that runs some version of DOS or a very stripped down Windows 95. I've heard of one that runs Apple's OS but as for the rest...
No, you tell him that the design of windows itself is flawed and linux is ready, so it's time to switch.
joe user does not give a shit about design. joe users cares 1. that it 's easy to use 2. if his apps will work
i fail to see where the problem is. Every linux distro has all those api's and they are installed by default. Do you have a problem with disk space or something? You don't need more than a gigabyte of disk space to install all of them. You install all those "backwards compatibility" dll's in windows and a whole "backward compatible" operating system in macs, and you complain that you have to install both gtk and qt?
Some people like to have as little crap installed on the system as possible, and would like to just have one unified API that is there, and nothing else. Not to mention it hurts consistancy and ease of use when every app uses different widgets. As for the macs, some of us delete our Classic folder
why is that? make no mistake, if X11 were not good nobody would be using them. The truth is that despite some drawbacks, there is nothing better out there. X11 functionality is still not matched by either windows or macintosh *or* terminal server solutions.
Let's go back to Joe User Joe User isnt SSHing into his desktop Does it display my apps? Does it look nice?
Yeah, I can buy one, but I shouldn't have to for what I'm paying. And what about for my Powerbook? $3000 and no means to add a button to the touchpad = annoyed me.
Now the right edge of my pad is a vertical scroll section. The top left corner activates expose's show all windows (F9) The bottom left corner is a right click
I'm on the "thrown away anyway" side of the argument. Be realistic people. You seriously think abortion is going to ever be abolished? It's here and it's not going anywhere... it's on such a massive scale that you cannot possibly stop it; even if it is eliminated legally there will still be "back alley" abortions.
So why not USE the fetuses that are BEING ABORTED ANYWAY. Let me repeat myself. Use the fetuses that are BEING ABORTED ANYWAY, whether it's because of rape or incest, the mother just not wanting the child, or some other case. I'm NOT saying abort babies for the purpose of stem cells... but when we have fetuses being aborted every day for other reasons, why not put them to use?
As soon as I heard about it I sent an email to a girl I know who has a horrible tendancy to believe these things explaining that it was a hoax. The following conversation ensued.
First, the important back end to the punchline: Her comptuer at the time was an old Compaq Presario, 200mhz, 32 megs of RAM, and Windows95 Her: I deleted that file Me: I told you it was a hoax Her: Yeah but I had the file on my computer! (I decide to take this and run with it) Me: I told you it was a hoax for a reason, now if you shut your computer down you aren't going to be able to start it back up again. (she signs off and isn't seen online again for about a week) Her: Colin am I ever going to be able to turn off my computer?
She BELIEVED me and actually left her dinosaur Win95 box running for a week straight. I was surprised after running that long she was able to get on to AOL 6.0 and IM me without the system falling to its knees in a spectacular stream of 30 BSODs.
Actually, since those are the only ways right now (aside from running the leaked builds/developer previews), yes it is a good way
The Longhorn sidebar is giant and useless. In fact, I find it incredibly ugly and a large waste of space. Having everything fly in and out on demand is much better, IMHO.
maybe now i could actually draw a circle on the freaking thing
i always saw kids in the commercials w/ these elaborate trucks drawn, i couldn't even make a damn circle
not that im bitter...
The compass ...or a big orange dinosaur ...or a fox with a tail made of fire
compared to a giant E
With everything built in to laptops these days, you really don't need a pc card slot anymore
Modem? Check
Wired ethernet? Check
Wireless ethernet? Check
Bluetooth? Check
USB? Check
Firewire? Check
The PC card slot is only on the 15" and 17", not the 12"
Apple stated last month there will be no signs of a g5 powerbook before the end of the year
im thinking announced in april/may and available in time for Back to School
but id never get a rev A laptop from apple
all the troubles with the g4 powerbook rev As, but my rev C is a dream
Actually, they do sell "last year's" models
click the big red SALE tag on the lower left of the apple store site
the new 15" and 17" powerbooks have a backup battery that lasts something like 2 to 5 minutes, allowing you to hot swap batteries
can you elaborate on that? what OS X patch? the installer looks for a cd...
smallest drive is 800 megs, biggest is 13 gigs
;-)
all the ram is pc100 or slower
i didnt say it was GOOD stuff
that's a big ole negative, i just tried it and it kept prompting me for the cd
thankfully my friend has the hybrid cd, while i have the original 1.0
perhaps check out http://www.maxivista.com/

Does it have "CIRCLE!"?
And don't forget specialty machines
Just about every theater in the world with a computerized lighting console has one that runs some version of DOS or a very stripped down Windows 95. I've heard of one that runs Apple's OS but as for the rest...
But can they run Linux?
PCs are windows machines
Macs are Macs
Boxen are Linux machines

Joe User isnt SSHing into his desktop
Does it display my apps?
Does it look nice?
(1) lack of games
Yeah, there aren't too many availabile nowadays for the mac
Yeah, I can buy one, but I shouldn't have to for what I'm paying. And what about for my Powerbook? $3000 and no means to add a button to the touchpad = annoyed me.
I just installed SideTrack
Now the right edge of my pad is a vertical scroll section.
The top left corner activates expose's show all windows (F9)
The bottom left corner is a right click
Run in a terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
Then use hte debug menu to import them
Cheetah was 10.1

"It doesn't have a disk drive"
Or he was referring to the lack of a floppy...
A funny story about that..
As soon as I heard about it I sent an email to a girl I know who has a horrible tendancy to believe these things explaining that it was a hoax. The following conversation ensued.
