  1. Re:How's My Cell Service? on How's Your Cell Service? · · Score: 4, Informative

Few people seem to realize that many cell phone companies, in the interest of retaining subscribers will actually do quite a bit. Give your company's service desk a call. Explain that you think you're paying too much and ask the service rep if there's anything they can do to help you.

Since cell phone companies' service plans seem to change all the time, you can usually luck out and get them to change you to more minutes for less money than you're paying now.

Try it some time. If you can stand wading through the 7 layers of Phone Menu Purgatory, you may just be pleasantly surprised.

You've bought into the lie that Islamic terrorism is a symptom of poverty and repression. Certainly, it gains traction because the vast majority of Arabs live under repressive governments and are unable to advance their own condition, no matter their efforts.

However, the vast majority of terrorists have been Western-educated, come from middle class families (at the very least) and would generally be considered part of the "elite" in their respective societies, with the exception of suicide bombers in Israel (which vary greatly in family background, although most are teenaged/20-something males).

Please don't contribute to the incorrect "poor, repressed people acting out" meme.

Also, it's been said that you can choose any two characters to race on any given cart, as evidenced in this pic, which clearly shows Mario paired with the Princess instead of Luigi.

What, precisely, makes Metroid Prime innovative, apart from the control scheme?

Don't take this as a critique of MP, as it's one of the most enjoyable games I've played in a long time (excepting Wind Waker, which currently has a stranglehold on my precious gaming hours), but I'd say MP is hardly the first adventure/expoloration game born out in full 3D (Thief and Deus Ex come to mind as prior art). I'll grant you that the platforming/morph ball elements are unique, but I don't think they qualify as innovative.

As for FPS innovation: Planetside. Want arcade-y action mixed with your FPS? The upcoming Tron 2.0 looks very interesting. Battlefield 1942 is a recent example of getting a team-based FPS truly, terribly almost right.

A Tale In the Desert is a current example of a game that defies current MMO conventions and instead prides itself on being a virtual community simulation.

Enigma: Rising Tide is wicked fun, as is Moonbase Commander.

How about Mafia? Sure, it's seen ports to the consoles too, but it started on the PC. Or Freelancer?

So speak not to me of "innovation". It abounds on the PC platform.

At the same time, you could very well argue that PA was simultaneously parodying American McGee and American Greetings. American Greetings recently began pushing its Strawberry Shortcake brand to market again, albeit in an updated, "hipper" form.

So, Mike and Jerry's work could simultaneously be lampooning McGee's twisted product notions as well as Greetings' re-released, ultra="hip" version of their character.
