I forgot to mention, had I pointed the browser at the Bangkok cybercafe at my Squid proxy server at home via the cable modem, I would have been ok, and they never would have known.

I mentioned this to them via email and they said their terms of service say you can't use a proxy server when accessing them. Huh, don't some ISP's require proxy servers? What about accessing from work and you have to use a proxy server? Strange, huh?

Funny, but my CNE is now worth a lot more than it used to be, since they are so rare. I was a 4.x CNE that upgraded to 5.x in time to never touch it again until recently.

While I need other experience, the CNE has made people notice me in my interviewing lately. Kind of proves you've been in the field awhile.

I plan to go CCNP but CCIE is a waste to me unless you have a job already lined up that requires it.

MCSE, well nice to have, nothing I mention typically.

I guess it all depends on your goals. If you want to be a CCIE and travel a lot, etc, sure. NOT ME!

  16. My thoughts... on Most @Home Customers Still Connected -- For Now · · Score: 1

First off, I was a ISDN user my company paid for, then when they fired me / layed me off (thanks Lucent...) I was able to get cable modem via Mediacom (a tiny cable co in Minnesota I guess) that uses @home for the ISP.

I would have preferred DSL but it's not available. One thing I prefer about DSL is the ability to choose my ISP.

I still haven't used @home as an ISP other than the pipe and IP address. I don't use their DHCP/DNS, nor email or usenet server. Visi.com a local ISP costs me an extra $11 a month but it's well worth it to me.

So the way I see it, this whole mess is the fault of the cable industry as a whole to lock us into specific ISP's. Let me choose, then when @home goes away, it wouldn't even be the cable companies problem.

Kind of like when my car runs out of gas. Do I blame Honda??? duh.
