My opinion on this: they are burning bridges... say you apply to slashdot.org and they never even say thanks for the resume... then later you are looking to advertise on technical web sites in your next job... I make sure to avoid rude companies like that.
I actually was able to use that once a couple jobs ago... I applied at a hardware reseller and never got a call or a postcard, then 2 jobs later we were looking to buy about US$300,000 of printers... guess who we never called for a bid?
I used the Tivo menu to select "SuperBowl" and it cut off at less than a minute to play. If I didn't read the paper I would think the game was a tie, and I didn't get to see who won the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes!
Does their snoopy software track how many people screamed at their machine when they are done watching the Super Bowl the next day?

I was paying $25-30 a month for my basic phone service, with call waiting.
I was getting a lot of telemarketers. I bought the no solication for $5, which required caller ID for $8, and the $30 box.
Well later I found out Qwest's custom choice is only $50 a month, and I can forward my phone and get other features too.
So after a few months of $50 a month, I said the heck with it. I still get telemarketing calls anyway.
Cancelled the home phone last week (the wire gets cut Friday). My wife and I have cell phones and that will be plenty for me thank you.
