Don't forget this is the same government who's officials routinely take brib--donations from media companies which produce a great deal of content that glories similar violent behavior, and, incidentally, this same government has a habit of passing laws to protect the profits these corporations make peddling their violence-laden content. The only difference I can figure is that the music/movie/television industries seem to be much more represented than the gaming industry in lobbying groups donating money to these politicians.
I've never heard a single person speak the word "blog" in my daily life. The only time I hear the word is when a news program is turned on and there's a story trying to force acceptance of blogs as really cool news things everyone should read because it's the trendy thing to do, right before the commercial break where the station advertises it's pundits' blogs.
As a student at a university who has some experience running edonkey there and at home behind a router/nat/firewall, I'd say that setup you have at home would prevent him from uploading to the vast majority of other clients out there (unless the ports necessary are unblocked) and thus by the nature of edonkey, this would prevent him from getting any decent download speeds. But I will also warn you, I ran edonkey (the emule precisely, but it doesn't really matter) for several months straight downloading the entire runs of several TV shows, until I recieved a letter from the university telling me Paramount pictures contacted them and said that my IP had been sharing some of their content which they specificly named via edonkey. The university doesn't hand out their student names in such cases, luckily, but they still said that disciplinary action could be taken for further violations. Companies issuing letters like this is in their power to do under the law, except for the fact that I had never downloaded or uploaded any owned by paramount pictures, and especially not the named files. But this placed me in a pickle because on one hand, I hadn't shared the alleged files, but I had shared other files that I couldn't very well lie about, and the university won't care whose files are being shared, they don't want that going on at all. Since then I've heard of a dozen or so others who recieved very similar letters around the same time. So from then on, I gave up on using edonkey and I would suggest letting your son know that movie/tv studios are specifically targetting university students using that network.
Interestingly, this ties him for the record of most consecutive appearances on a game show, and puts him one win shy of most consecutive wins on a game show. (in the records section here.)
Also interesting is that he was hesitant in the past to break other records, such as the most one in a single game (he tied it several times before he beat it by quite a bit.). So I wouldn't be sure whether or not he just decided it was time to stop or not.
I agree with the statement "we should not strive to survive just like every other lifeform out there" however much of what humans do is not done for survival. Hunting animals into near extinction for ivory and furs is not done for survival, it's done because greed. Dumping crap into the ocean is not done for survival, it's done because its a quick and easy "harmless" solution to the immediate problem of having some crap to dispose of. So many actions which harm the environment are done for such shortsighted reasons rather than for the purpose of ensuring one's survival.
Search around for MOND, or Modified Newtonian Dynamics. From what I've learned about it (very little) it sounds right up the alley of what you're saying about gravity.
Even worse: Three nights ago, my buddy next door and his roommate had a very stragnge thing happen. At around 2 or 3 am, Drunk College Student walks into their room without waking either of them up, and proceeds to lay down in bed. Only the bed contained my buddy's roommate. I'm not sure why, but he didn't force the guy to leave right off, instead he tried to sleep and ignore Drunk College Student, and after 2 hours of failure, he attempted to remove the intruder. They ended up having to go get the RA to get the guy out of their room.
So remember, its very good habit to lock your doors at night.
Fixing bugs as many little bugs as they can, especially in level design I believe. They've said its very close to being complete, it's just being playtested to death at the moment.
That's excellent news--I've got some amazing shots I took in New Zealand, which I visited just after reading Adams' Last Chance To See, in which he spends a fair amount of time there. I even bought a plush Kakapo to support a wildlife preserve in honor of the part the bird played in the book.
I'm going offtopic, but I'm curious about this concept of notching. In addition to the "not for resale" label you mention, is there a physical notch cut into the case? The reason I'm curious is that this reminds me of two cds I bought from a bargain bin for $5 each. Each has a quarter inch notch cut vertically down about half an inch from the top right corner of the case. It cuts through the plastic as well as the case inserts. I just looked for one of the cds, and I don't see "Not for resale" anywhere, but is this what you meant by "notched?"
... because since I've switched to firefox, I need to remember them again at least once to input (Since I'd been using autologin on most sites for months/years) and I use several variants of my name and passwords depending on the site and the requirements and I forget which I use where.
Most definitely. My girlfriend and I recently got back from college, and I'm astounded what's happened to her family's computer. I haven't gotten over there to fix it yet (was planning to today actually), but she ran a virus scan and found 91 viruses, mostly adware (Hasn't actually scanned for adware yet). She can't use internet explorer because just opening it fills the screen with popups.
I guess this is what happens when two parrents and a fifteen year old who aren't at all tech savy are left with a computer for 9 months.

If you're going to by a portable device with that much space to store avi's, why not get something that can play them like this?
The first man to file a lawsuit died, and then five other John Does came forward to sue. Their argument that to be treatead for exposure, they needed to know what they were exposed to. The government's argument was that they couldn't reveal what the men were exposed to for security reasons, and that's the way the court ruled.
There's a History Channel program that runs periodically about this.
Look at how people react to invasions of privacy by the government ("It's for our protection!")
Who is 'they'? I know no one that would react to an honest-to-god "invasion of privacy by the government" in the manner you describe. So either you made up this reaction, or what you consider an invasion of privacy differs from most.
If you know no one that would react like this, perhaps you spend most of your time with the tinfoil hat crowd. I've tried to convince many people otherwise when they have expressed sentiments such as "I don't mind if the government hears my phone calls/reads my email because they're hunting terrorists" and "I don't care what they do as long as they can catch the terrorists." Give people an enemy they're sufficently afraid of and they won't care what the government needs to do to "protect" them from it.
I read about this a while ago here. I've found it to load in a second or two, as opposed to the 15-30 seconds it used to take, and it no longer leaves anything running and hogging up resources after I close it.
I received a similar letter from my university (probably a watered down version of one they received similar to yours) alleging I had shared two files belonging to a specific movie/TV studio. Which I hadn't. I'm not sure what to do about this, as I don't know who they'd believe: college student or corporation.
"First, one brief announcement. I just wanted to mention for those who have asked that absolutely nothing whatsoever happened today in sector 83/9/12. I repeat, nothing happened. Please remain calm."
Yes, protecting material products...

Regardless, we should all be so fortunate that we don't have movies based on reality shows....yet.
Not to rain on your parade, but apparently some people refer to this as a movie..
I feel dirty that I even recall it's existence.

A few lines some of my fellow physics majors and I have come up with indclude:
Wanna go calculate the spring coefficient of my matress.
Let's go back to my place and do some research in applied fluid dynamics.
and last but not least, the great and simple: I'd really like to integrate your curves.

But seriously that's a testimate to how well they build and designed it.
:)
The fact that it crashed aside, of couse.

Nah, they can just trade for them. Gently used freshman calc book for an ipod, anyone?

Are those really a problem for people?

Hmmm.... well they sure took "brain the size of a planet" to heart when designing his head...

No, not just one more patch. Three!
