It can tell good picture from bad, but it's completely relative. Sure, it can come up with a picture that's better than the original. But that's by no means the best it can do. This process continually attempts to create pictures that are better than the previous picture, apparently repeating this process until an image is found where any adjustments to it result in images that are worse in quality. Then that one is selected as the best version.

I got really excited when I read your post. Error bars were the sole reason I reinstalled MS Office last week. Unfortunately, I just ran Calc and checked out the new chart tool. Nothing seems to have changed, other than a new, fancy interface. It still lacks the ability to use a data range as error bars for a range of data points, and still lacks the ability to display a trendline equation on the graph. Looks like I'm still going to be split between OO Writer and MS Excel.

At Purdue University, when I lived in the dorms (2 and 3 years ago), the only restrictions on our internet usage were 1 GB/day up, and 1 GB/day down (with warnings/service supensions for breaking it multiple times) my first year, and this was increased to 3 gigs my second year. As I understand this has only increased the last two years as they continue to update the network hardware. I routinely got 2-3 MB/s on popular torrents, and almost never had latency issues with anything. I never performed a conclusive bandwidth test--I don't think the test sites I was using had enough bandwidth to match what I could download, but I recall results ranging between 30-50 Mb/s.

And of course, no content was censored, no ports were blocked, and every port in every building had an external IP.

Now that I live off campus, I have cable internet, which is slightly less reliable, and significantly slower--capped around 4 Mb/s--than what was available in university housing. Of course, that's about the only thing I miss about the dorms.

Exactly. Whenever I read a preview of a game that looks awesome, I think to myself "I hope that game ends up being as cool as this looks" and make a mental note to watch for the game later on when it's actually finished and reviewed. The preview doesn't usually do the advertising job of selling me the game. What it does is makes me aware of the game's existence.

He mentioned briefly what you sent him, and you sound like you know a think or two about our history :) If you're still in the area, you should stop by and see what we've done with the place this year. Whereas with, say, ICQ (and apparently Yahoo as the GP mentions, though I'm not familiar with it) you can send a message to an offline user and it is stored on the server, to be delivered when the user signs on, regardless of your online status. This is something I really wish would have been taken from ICQ and implemented in AIM.

My old phone quit on me finally after almost two years (and after falling down a stair case while flipped open), and the only cheap solution comparable to my original ended up being a camera phone. First small problem I have with it is its bulkiness (granted the old phone was tiny), which is no doubt due to there being dual color screens and a camera. Second, I got a flip phone for a reason: flippy part covers all the buttons so none get pressed when phone is in pocket, saving me the hassle of turning on and off the keyguard every time I use it. Right? Nope, there's a camera button on the side of the phone that works when the phone is closed, so since I haven't bothered to delete them, the 20 or so photos stored on my phone are pictures of my pocket. (I'll admit I did take a few others, most to check out the functionality, and one of a tour bus of the bus line "Lamers."). Then, as you stated, "there seems to be a needless number of button clicks to do basic tasks" such that the keyguard is the 8th menu choice of the 9th menu option of the 10th menu. I'm sure it's not trying to hide there or anything.
