When I see stories like this, I don't understand why people can't understand what's happening in the USA: fascism. Monopolistic companies buying (read: bribing) laws to cover their asses to avoid doing real work and truly compete in a marketplace. The most likely problem is that most people don't know what fascism is. Benito would be proud. Orwell would just say "figures".
Because all the music industry has rights to their content, there is nothing to "give you"
While this is true in a vacuum, the **AA are known anti-competitive bodies. They have been convicted of price-fixing. They make chain stores (Wal-Mart, Target) agree to not carry any media other than what's produced by their member companies. They bribe legislators to protect their business models. Your argument might be logically sound, but it falls apart in the real world.
Surprisingly, a lot of hardware works better under Linux than Windows. No, you don't get the "good" video driver polish, and maybe not the support for all of your soundcard support, but there's a ton less BS in getting stuff to work.
There's a difference between a lot of companies that have been proven in court to have broken laws and Microsoft: Microsoft is STILL THE SAME holier-than-thou monopolizing behemoth that it was before. IBM and Standard Oil (BP/Amoco) are VERY DIFFERENT from when they were thought of as "evil empires"
What about Mac OS X? I know (actually, not really) that Solaris doesn't run on Apple hardware, but it would be interesting to compare the same stuff on an Xserve and also be able to test the OS X performance.
1. In the last 15 years, the majority of most of these scientist's time has been spend under a Democratic president
I would hope the President of the USA is "Democratic", maybe you meant Democrat? Also, think about the Republicans gaining control of congress. OH NOEZ, SOMETHING DISAGREES WITH MY PARTISAN STUPIDITY 1111
Seriously, though. If you think the Republican party or "conservatives" in the US Government machine are going to do a better job of keeping business interests out of research, you're out of your mind. Both major US political parties are devolving into supporters of Fascism-in-the-shadows.
I think the problem in reviewing games is that the average person doesn't like all genres of videogame. I personally find MMORPGs a waste of time, but have friends who love them. I don't think it would be fair for me to review World of Warcraft while my friends are reviewing the latest 2D Castlevania.
I wonder when some Linux users will stop being so arrogant. Many people come to Linux AFTER they have purchased an ATI card with a desktop or notebook.
I think Linux should officially qualify as sole licensee of the phrase "chicken and egg". Nearly every issue has the same problems, either it's "there's not enough Linux users / More would use it if you supported it" or "there is only closed source / it's because companies don't trust open source"
I find it interesting that you can make such a blanket statement about all repair workers of a huge multi-national car manufacturer. Did you visit each one and somehow magically figure out that they were ALL this way?
I think Nintendo kind of made a bad decision with the 'Cube: no DVD support.
With regard to your comment about going the way of Sega, I remember reading some exec at Nintendo saying something like "the day we stop making systems is the day we go out of the games business" (sorry, I don't remember where I saw it). I dunno how serious that statement was, tho.
I would suggest trying Camino. FFx had that problem back in the earlier 0.x days in windows, too. (maybe it still does? I don't know, I use windows a lot less now)
I think the graphic is there because people are visual thinkers. It would take a few moments of thinking to extrapolate the actual meaning of what the map was if they typed out the dates of the different branches. With the chart, it's easier to see how things line up and relate to each other.

In the beginning was the format, and the format was with the bits, and the format was the bits. The same was in the beginning with the bits.

You claim to support interoperability. Why then, on many of your web pages, is the text approximately 1 mm tall?
Who is this Logic guy and why should I listen to him?

I didn't realize New York City and Silicon Valley were the only two cities in the world where video game companies were allowed to have offices...

First they control the means of searching the internet (google)
I didn't know Google had an exclusive contract and patent on "website that searches and catalogs webpages"
then the means of communication (gmail)
Which is in beta...
then they control the business of local businesses (gmaps)
Also in beta
and now they controls the means of education (gwiki)
Hasn't happened yet.
better stop now, before I start reminiscing about the Super Mario / Zelda / Metroid comics
want me to scan them for you?
It's missing the lake by my town...
All your sol-ar belong to us?
sorry

That video is SICK! When I was young and played with RC cars, I always thought of something like that...I didn't believe it would ever be possible.

Wrong, I WIN. See, I secretly placed my bet as "negative 11 months", so your first article confirms it ;)

Place your bets on how long it'll be until we see stories about crooks mugging the white-headphone people.
Well, hopefully at Google, the geeks are still in charge, instead of the bland corporate management and leadership that bow down to capital.
I'm also hoping that the former don't become the latter.
