It's interesting that use of 'stone' for weights has died out here in NZ. I would have no idea even how much a stone is. We do still use feet and inches for height and cms interchangibly.
20 years ago weight was all stones, but now it's kgs.
The problem is that each (38 great) grandkid, has just as many (38 great) grand-daddies wanting their damn dollar.
Fortunately, by the time this happens, inflation will have meant that the kids will be getting a few billion in pocket money every week, so they should be able to afford it, it just won't be much when it get's to you....
I bought a FF joystick because of that game. Playing on a normal joystick was next to impossible as you can't feel when your wings are starting to slip, and you very quickly loose control. Taking off is even harder if you can't feel how your plane is trying to twist around the prop.
I can't speak for any other flight-sims, they may be crap or unrealistic..
I grew up using QWERTY. Although as I started typing at a very young age, I never learnt how to touch type.
I could type in QWERTY at adequate speeds, and I didn't feel I needed to be any faster.
The main drive for me to switch, was that I wanted to learn how to touch type. I'd tried to learn to touch type a few times, but it was always so easy to cheat and go back to typing with the incorrect fingures, as I was too used to typing in my own way.
I switched to DVORAK at work, and used QWERTY at home. For a number of years I could adequately use both. But it was not until I switched over at home as well that I really started becoming FAST at DVORAK.
At the moment, I use DVORAK everywhere, and have trouble with switching to QWERTY, although once I realise what's going on I can type by looking at the keys, reasonably well. I get the odd letter wrong, and if I try to think about it, I get REALLY confused.
One of the main drawbacks to using DVORAK is when programs (especially games) assume you have a QWERTY keyboard. Setting the regonal settings to DVORAK under windows is ok, but when games do their own keyboard mapping, they don't seem to expect you use anything other than QWERTY. One of the worst examples of this has got to be Counter Strike. The Half-life bit of it, when you are setting up all your keys, seems to be fine with your regonal settings set to DVORAK. As soon as you launch the game, it assumes you are in QWERTY. There is no way to set up your keys in QWERTY at all. It took me AGES to try and get the keys set up, cause I had to type in DVORAK where the QWERTY keys would be. Also, as with any keyboard layout, getting it set up for the default in windows logon was a bitch, and I ended up hacking the registry until it magically worked.
The best solution may be to get something like at dvortyboard.com where you can switch between QWERTY and DVORAK in hardware as much as you like.
All in all though, I think the switch to DVORAK was well worth it. Speed isn't the main concern, although I am typing faster and more evenly with DVORAK. And I love typing now for some reason, as all of my fingers are used all the time.
I read alot of debates over how DVORAK being better is just a myth, and QWERTY is better yada yada yada. For me, I find DVORAK comfortable. The common letters are easy to reach without moving your left hand too much (I'm right handed, so moving my right hand is more comfortable and coordinated than moving my left hand) and I don't need to move my less coordinated (ring and pinky) fingers up and down much. QWERTY has jkl; in the home row of your main hand. Yet you surely don't use these keys much at all... Seems strange to me....
155 words per minute is an extreemly impressive typing speed.
Average reading speed is 250wpm, and we only get that fast because we learn to recognise word shapes without looking at individual characters. Reading all CAPITALS slows us down up to 20% giving around 200wpm. In that you need to type each character specifically, 200wpm becomes the theoretical maximum for typing.
155wmp is a DAMN good effort.

V outsells coke and pepsi in dairies and service stations. Pepsi NZ was actually bought out by frucor a few years ago.
I can't stand black V, it almost has a slight coffee type taste. Sugar free V is my favourite at the moment.
Personally though, I've given up a V addiction many times..
There was also a system the same as this reported on slashdot back in 98.
So far I've been unable to find it though. If anyone finds it, let me know.
Instructions should be read first, or not at all. Anything else is admitting defeat.

I guess height will go the same way.

not from here it aint.
IIRC the joystick port uses a crude a/d to measure the resistance of each axis to determine where the stick is at.
Just hook a thermistor (a resistor that changes resistance with heat) up to it and read from the joystick port.
PICs suck.
kiwiFRUIT you silly american.
do you call grapefruit grapes? do you call blackberries blacks? or oranges oras? no.
besides, a kiwi is a small flightless bird which is an endangered species, and our national symbol.
how about ill-tempered sea-bass?
nah, arigato is spelt with an a. nfi what 'origato' means.
dude. If you're gonna put it in bold, at least put it in upper-case...
nah, they never bought licences in the first place anyway ;)

Verne.
or is it once for "no," and twice for "yes?).
:)
Don't worry. I'm sure it's one of the two. You could always ask it "is it twice for yes?" and it'll blink twice.
ooo... kinda like the pink elephant game?
"ok... whatever you do, DON'T THINK ABOUT GOING FORWARD"
yeah, like that'll work...
And 'email' isn't a silly word anyway, the pronounciation is not regular with the rest of the English language.
...
That's because you have dropped the hyphen.

um... wasn't there a big ship with an EMP hiding round the corner when all that happened? I think he's just losing the plot...
Only one "M". It stands for "Subscriber Identity Module".
;)
How do you feel about people who say "PIN Number"...
It's too late to change... if there is already a "Sports Game 2003" from last year, they can't call this years game the same thing...
"Sports Game 2003 - Really, We Mean It!"
I'm not a sports game fan, but surely it's obvious what the new title is and what the old title is? Besides, why not just look at the copywrite date?

Come to New Zealand.
Spend 20 minutes in the sun in the afternoon, THEN tell me you think there is an ozone layer above you...
not that anyone probably cares, but common engineering practice is to use the 'k' for the decimal point.
i.e. Y2k038
and for all those who think they can use upper case 'K', that's 1024 not 1000.
That's all. Pretty pointless post, but this is slashdot afterall.
