Actually, that's incorrect. There are a number of people in history (Martin Luther King, Mahatma Ghandi, George Washington, etc) who have gained "power" but have not abused it the way some people are abusing it now. This lady is just a petty political figure that is sticking her nose were it doesn't belong. Will her advocation of DRM have an effect? Probably not.
If anybody can explain to me why so many folks seem to be terrified of homosexuality even though it has roughly zero impact on their lives I'd appreciate it.
Personally, I think the people are terrified of homosexuality for one or more of the following reasons:
1. Some people hate it because they've been brought up to believe it's bad/evil. 2. Some people hate it because they've had homosexual feelings but can't reconcile it with #1. 3. Some people hate it because homosexuals are the whipping people du jour. 4. Some people hate it just to have something to hate.
Corporate speak is basically the same type of "Rah-Rah" speech you here at Amway/Mary Kay/etc conventions. It's just for pumping up peoples emotions rather than conveying useful information.
It's interesting to see other animals, and now possibly insects, demonstrate intelligent behaviour and communicate with each other. Wether they use body language, chemical emmissions, or sign language with their antenna, I'd say it looks like we keep finding intelligent life on our own planet.
But, if I find one in my house I'm still going to squish it.
As a heart patient myself, it always gave me a mental boost to know that others were taking time to pray for me when I had to go in for surgery. Even though prayer may not directly affect the outcome of a surgery, letting the patient know that there are people who care about them can make a big difference.
Seriously, IE7 will only have an impact if they can fix the security issues. Otherwise, Firefox, Opera and others will continue to gain share in the market.
I work in an office building where there's a 60" plasma screen TV by the guards desk and 15" LCD TVs in the elevators. I wish they played informational healthy eating tips and commercials only; instead, they play Fox News 24-7.
Nice to see the Demopublicans focusing on the things that the public really cares about. Broadband for all, a chicken in every pot, basic healthcare for everyone, affordable housing, diplomacy instead of war, stopping corporate influence on the political system, getting a court's permission before wiretapping; what's the difference?
[One] answer is that we're totally scared of new media, because new media is railways and we're canals, and you all just know how that's going to end. So we seek to equate the internet with all bad things to scare you off it. At some corporate Freudian level, there's some truth to that accusation.
Picture what is happening today with the RIAA/MPAA, publishers, writers, etc. vs. the Internet, BitTorrent, iTunes, etc. as what happened when the printing press first appeared. It used to be the church that controlled knowledge and only gave a few "educated" people access. Then the printing press comes along and the clergy called it Satan's tool because it was something they couldn't control. Well, the corporations are going to do the same FUD spreading to squash what they perceive as a threat.
What do I need to bring to the table to be considered for even a menial position, these days?
1. Flexiblity, so you can bend over backwards to kiss your boss's ass. 2. Energy, so you can run errands for everyone else in the office. 3. Kneepads, to worship management properly. 4. Tough skin, so you can handle being a slave.
Seriously, most companies see interns as slave labor with decent pay or benefits. Either look for a job or talk to people who interned at companies you're looking at so you know what you're getting yourself into.
This guy should be covered under whistle-blower laws as he was bringing to light an activity that is illegal in California (and other places as well). I really wonder about humanity when the people who are trying to do the right thing keep getting punished for standing up.
For those of you who wonder about how they test for "tainted" tissue, it's rather easy: Does the patient now have a disease that they didn't have before the transplant? Were they at risk to contract the disease independently of the transplant? If someone who has been married for 50 years suddenly shows up with AIDS, hepititis, etc. it's a pretty good bet it's from the transplant and not risky sexual behaviour. You assess the patient and see if a new condition they are experiencing is due to lifestyle or other factors.
Power corrupts. That's all there is to it.

Actually, I find duct tape, velcro, and handcuffs effectively eliminate the distractions children can cause in the car.
In the spirit of delicio.us, I can see a porn site called showand.tel being registered.
Perhaps you should change your underwear now.
I'm afraid we're seeing that already.
And I have a feeling it's only going to get worse.
But 8-10 billion people hitting the wall of finite natural resources would make a much squishier sound than 6 billion!
If there were no homosexuals, they'd pick a race or a sex, or a religion, but the propaganda would be the same.
Already been done:
Race: Africans, Asians, etc.
Sex: Women, of course.
Religion: Islam, Buddism, Confucism, etc.
I'm expecting the haters to hate extra-terrestrial life when we find it.

I don't get it either.

I like a crypto-fascist conspiracy as much as the next guy, but wouldn't that be an awfully big marketing risk for IBM to take?
Not really. Didn't you know that the U.S. government is a wholely owned subsidiary of IBM?
Obviously nothing concrete or released yet so take with the requisite grain of salt.
Actually, I'd say take the news of this "breakthrough" with a Salt Lick.
I hope it's true, but I'm not holding my breath.

Only if dropped from a really tall building.
Seriously, IE7 will only have an impact if they can fix the security issues. Otherwise, Firefox, Opera and others will continue to gain share in the market.
"Love Adult Video Games"?
For a minute, I thought I was on Boing Boing or Fleshbot.

Nuclear Public Reactors?

is that why you just can't get rid of people who annoy you?
