  1. When does the pain stop? on More Patent Worries for Mobile Phones · · Score: 1

    When does the hurting stop!?

As soon as we find a way to put a bullet in patents that are so loosely worded as to enable a company to sue (almost) everyone in sight. The pain for consumers, programmers, and others will continue so long as the USPTO and companies continue to be greedy and our representatives in government continue to look the other way.

FYI: If you get PVCs when you're dehydrated it means that your body is low on potassium. When that happens, drink Gatorade or apple juice to replenish the potassium level. If you let your potassium get too low your heart will stop! I'm sure you know the result.

As for PVCs while under stress: sufficient stress CAN induce PVCs in an otherwise healthy adult. It's a bad idea to go too long without sleep as it will eventually cause other problems as well.

Note that EVERYONE has PVCs on occasion, most people have them when they are sleeping. What's important to note is how many you have in a set period of time and if you have multiple missed beats back to back). If you have several (10-15)in an hour, I'd recommend you see a cardiologist for a Holter monitor (a 24-hour electrocardiogram) to see how many you have in a day. Your PVCs may be a sign of a health issue that needs to be addressed.

  10. Be careful on Subjecting Yourself to Experimental Meds · · Score: 5, Interesting

My life was saved by an experiemntal drug. The doctors couldn't get my heart restarted after my third open-heart surgery via defibrillation or other methods. The anaesthesist was one of the doctors evaluating a new medication that showed promise for restarting hearts and used it on me. As you can tell, it worked.

I've also been on the bad side of experimental drugs and have suffered thru some major side-effects. It's not a great feeling when the medication you are taking to eliminate pre-ventricular contractions makes you feel like you're living underwater.

As for people volutarily subjecting themselves to experimental medications and treatment: TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST! He knows your particular case better than any other doctor and can help you evaluate if you are a good candidate for the experimental treatment. It's a good thing that it's becoming easier to find out about available experimental treatments, but don't think it's going to be the "magic-bullet" cure until you find out more and talk with your doctor.

A couple of my co-workers recently took a 3-hour lunch to go and play golf. They made up their work hours and got their assigned work done. I've found that most employers don't care if you take a few hours off every once in a while as long as you get your work completed.

We all have done things in our past that seemed justifiable or logical at the time, but later we realize it wasn't a wise thing to do.

Did Sunny do something illegal? Yes.
Should he have take the time to read the agreement he agreed to when he signed up for the ADC account? Yes.
Should he have posted it to a p2p network? No.
Did he admit that he had made a mistake? Yes.
Has he learned from this mistake? Yes.

Apple chose to go easy on him, not just to prevent bad PR, but also to show that they are willing to forgive their customers for making mistakes. Even Steve Jobs isn't perfect and has made mistakes (remember NeXT?). Perhaps we all need to be more forgiving the next time someone makes a mistake against us. You'll find that most people won't make the mistake again.

consuming excessive amounts of bandwidth where such consumption is a good indicator of infringing activities.

This is a very bad way to determine if someone is sharing or downloading songs, movies, etc. I pull down patches for my Linux, AIX, OS X, and Windoze boxes on a regular basis. I easily exceed several gigs a month just doing this not to mention web surfing, viewing online videos, animations, NASA TV, etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but ISPs are only supposed to provide a way to access the internet. They aren't supposed to provide services for companies that want to snoop on the ISPs users; i.e. they provide bandwidth not Deputy Dawg services. I hope that the ISPs are brave enough to stand up to this and tell RIAA/MPAA where to stick their agreement.
