  1. gemini 8 on Now's Your Chance To Apply As an Astronaut · · Score: 1

one good example from history. read about the Gemini 8 mission and the capsule spinning wildly out of control at an increasing rate approaching the point where astronaut would become unconscious. Armstrong fired the correct thrusters to bring it under control, then made re-entry low on fuel and survived. Sometimes the experience pays off, I'd say.

  2. split keys? on Apple's "iKey" Wants To Unlock All Doors · · Score: 1

This could allow option of key splitting like encryption keys. For example, my key will always work to open my lock, but I also have the option of having any 3 friends out of 10 I designate combine keys to allow my lock to open. This would be handy for getting locked out...just call the n number of neighbors you trusted with parts of you split key to meet you at the door.

  6. Re:Can you focus out-of-focus pictures on Google Begins Blurring Faces In Street View · · Score: 1

You cannot get back the information that has been lost, IF it has been lost. "Swirling" doesn't remove much information, but significant blurring does. What you would need is the computer that is used in Bladerunner and many other TV/movie scenes that will recreate the data for you, giving infinite zoom ability. These computers also can remove *all* noise from audio and recreate all the underlying sounds.

  10. Maybe I'm in the minority, but... on New AACS Fix Hacked in a Day · · Score: 4, Insightful

I would have already bought an HD-DVD player had there not been DRM in place. If I knew I could make copies for myself, rip to a portable or my laptop easily, etc., I would already own an HD-DVD player an several movies for it. I guess the Industry doesn't take my demographic into account as it must be a minority, but surely there has to be some up-side to playing nice with consumers and letting us make copies/rips of their movies. I used to buy music, too, when I knew I could copy/mix/etc.
Would they lose a sale here and there because somebody copies a movie for a friend/family/neighbor? Yes, of course. Are they going to anyway? Yes. But...are they losing sales because of DRM in place? I think lots.

  12. rationalize it, still ruins the game for some on An Interview with a Cheater · · Score: 1

I'm sure there are plenty of rationalizations, but cheaters ruin the game for me. I used to love Counterstrike, but stopped playing when so many cheaters appeared. Same with BF2, now loaded with cheaters despite PunkBuster. There is a company dedicated to cheaters (MSX Security) making money off the desire(we caught someone on our server once by seeing his ID on the site as a member). I can't really blame them, they're just filling a market demand, but the members who go there and pay for cheats/hacks should be banned from any game server that notices them.
