I ordered a 2GB SODIMM stick to replace the 1GB because the graphics seemed to be a bit on the slow side (shared memory - I've heard that it will see the extra RAM and use more of it for graphics)

It's very well suited for everything other than graphics/video apps and hardcore games.

Some reputable schools advertise on buses and TV as well. There was a TV commercial here last year for Washington State University where a student was shown opening doors in a school hallway to what were supposed to be different classrooms. When you open the door which was marked "Science", there were white coats holding test tubes and a space shuttle blasting off in the background. When you open the door to "Western Civilization", you were instantly transported to the Eiffel Tower. (Cue to roll eyes). Disclaimer: I'm a Huskie.

Exactly correct. Chinese culture, whether in not-free mainland or free Hong Kong or Taiwan, do not look highly on gangster culture (which is often glorified in its movies) and are in fact terrified of negative influences on their youth. Think of the groups of think-of-the-children helicopter parents in the U.S. - it's simply magnified tenfold in Chinese (or generally East Asian) communities.

The Chinese government is simply enacting a populist policy. It's hard for Westerners to understand that a good number - not all - but a good number of policies of the Chinese government do have popular support behind it. Having Breads and Circuses for your people tend to require making a good majority of them happy and content most of the time.
