  1. Re:Home schooling vs. school duty on US Grants Home Schooling German Family Political Asylum · · Score: 1

    Anecdotes. Anecdotes.

I went to public school in Portland, OR in a community which has a pretty high rate of homeschooling - because of the high concentration of Mormons and 7th Day Adventists. Their parents enroll them in a variety of activities - sports, music, etc. so I'm able to interact with a number of them during the course of these same activities.

Most of the ones who socialized normally have since left the church after they turn 18. The rest were the typical home-school stereotype who had low socialization skills and low self esteem when placed in a group that is not composed of their peers - and I would have to say - out of a sample of around 100-200 kids of so that I've come to know - at least 60%-70% would fall into the latter category.

Anecdote or not, these 2 data points extrapolate to a lot of former players out there who've used up their savings way too early.

It's actually probably more because that's where the top brass of the Axis Powers stashed their personal war loot.

They also believed that it was just peachy to own people who's skin was darker than theirs. No, they didn't. That's another liberal lie. Many of the Founding Fathers were against slavery, and it was strongly debated during the formation of the Union. They decided to compromise and allow the South to keep slavery so that they could keep them in the Union, because if they hadn't, they wouldn't have had a Union at all and wouldn't have been able to stand up against Britain. You do realize the "Founding Fathers" weren't of one mind about everything, don't you? Anyone who has a clue about American history knows they were divided into two main camps, the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists.

While the Founding Fathers may have objected to slavery, it's inconclusive whether they did it for moral or pragmatic reasons. From your explanation and ones from others, it sounds like it may be the latter considering the cultural norms at the time. The north and south agreed on the Three-Fifths Compromise to, like you said, entice the south to stay in the Union and for the north to feel better about reducing the power of the south in the House.

I'm not so sure that "anarchy" is really the right term for what's going on over there. In the Western point of view, there's no UN-recognized, legitimate government. However, people over there aren't exactly living in anarchy - they're just ruled by whatever warlord or administrator happens to hold power in their particular geographic region. These rulers control the laws of regional commerce, defense, social services, etc. the same way that the Taliban does in rural Afghanistan. There are de facto leaders managing all this everyday stuff that runs in a society.
