    Well, yeah, I think that the 10^4 grams of various concentrated acids and reactive metals and other nasty things needed for a battery, across 10^7 or so personal vehicles, if there isn't a very good program in place to process the spent cells, could cause a very big problem.

    Not in all places... I know in North Carolina, your car will not pass inspection with a cracked windsheild, but you're not actually required to have a windsheild, so you can just take it out to pass inspection.

    So plug in a keyboard and press f1? I don't see the problem...

    (yeah, yeah, I get it, but my keyboard has a crappy connector (it's some old generic ps/2 board) and I sometimes have to reseat it if I moved it or something. I'd much rather know that before I spent 30-40 seconds waiting for my OS to load.

    Well, there's no reason it couldn't be, with a switch to kill power to the SSD before you pull it, from a sliding tray or the like. I know my inspirion 8200 has only one screw holding the hard drive in the laptop, the rest is secured in a tray that comes out the side.

    Not true. I paid extremely little for my hardware. Most of it was broken when I bought it, but I'm patient, and at least half-decent with a soldering iron when I need to be. (Capacitor replacements being the biggest one)

    To be fair, if it's the model I used to have, that uses LEDs. I actually liked that scanner a lot, but I had to sell it off to pay some bills.

    I think the OP was speaking in a rhetorical sense, but that aside, have you ever seen the sidewalks in an area with a freeze-thaw cycle? I live in Buffalo, NY, and most of the sidewalks, even in the richer neighborhoods, are cracked to shit, either from the freeze-thaw cycle or from tree roots. I've got a nice scar in my forehead to prove it, too. (But I've told that story so many times *I*'m getting sick of it.)

    Because even with a 50/50 rate, I'd rather have 50 tons of really, really spent fuel sitting around rather than 100 tons of spent fuel.

    France gets their fuel, everyone else gets rid of their waste. Sounds win/win to me, if one wasn't willing to do the reprocessing themselves.

    Anyway, is Vista so locked down that you can't have ANY non-DRM'd files? Sounds a bit weird to me...
