When looking at the slashdot icons lined up next to each other (ie borg, X, borg) Does any body else get the temptation to play tic-tac-toe using the icons?
How safe a bet or great a risk would it have been for Apple to switch

Exactly what I got, and I already made up a 'funny ' reply to the DVD/PVR combo story:-/
What, the DVD/PSX/PVR combo doesn't come with HDTV/DOG/NICAM? Although I'll assume that it comes with IR/LEDs/DSAT/EPROM/EPG just in case the LNB doesn't work
Note: To any mods who will read this story and the upcoming story about the sony DVD/PVR, it's late here and I can't stay up all night just to post on the right story, so would you please add +1 funny moderation points to this post instead!

Am I the only one who initially saw a story about a SONY DVD/PVR combo click it, and have it replaced by this story?
The only way to enforce this would be to have some sort of accreditation scheme... I believe this was mentione on slashot a month (?) or so ago and then you got most people saying that it was too restrictive on people's right to code...
I am paying for something of value to me and it costs them something to maintain this data.
If companies support (even at a cost) older products (take Ed's example of partition magic), it *does* cost the company money to train their support staff, and often the number of (paid) calls coming through asking help aren't enough to warrant the extra education for staff...
How are the costs determined for something like this? for example:
The costs from SirCam included an estimated $460 million spent on cleaning infected systems and $575 million for lost productivity.
If that 460 mil was actually paid to people for virus removal, and they'd normally be doing the work covered in the 575mil lost in productivity (but they've just switched tasks or whatever), then the actual loss is only 575 mil...
