  3. Anything Comcast on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1

Really. Comcast stinks. Cable internet goes out for about two days a month (I know this isn't your question) and my cable tv reception (analog) consistently gets captioned jibberish along it (maybe 1/5 shows). Further, it's twice the price of satellite with half the channels. Oh yeah, and if I want HDTV, it costs an extra $15 per month + $5 per channel, whereas for satellite it's $12 per month for all channels.

True, you will have to hook up a seperate antenna for network HD, but that is *so* worth it. I'd already be over to satellite if my apt didn't come with free comcast. I'm getting what I pay for, but those poor shmo's putting out $60/month for comcast sure aren't.

I have to say, if I were to bet, I would bet it is some ticked off linux fan. Since this virus is really just meant to hurt SCO, it's either someone who wants to discredit the OS movement or some single child-minded linux fan.

I'd bet on the latter, simply because there's not that many "linux-haters" that are individuals and child-ish. A company like MS, as dirty as they can be, I don't believe would engage in this kind of criminal behavior. Basically, virii are written by individuals for the most part, and I don't think an individual has much to gain from attacking OSS.

In all likelihood, it *was* some ticked-off kid. Get ready for more blurring the lines of linux=illegal hacking=evil subculture=virii makers type articles and opinions.

I'm sure I read this on /. somewhere, but I can't find the article.

I know a lot of it had to do with MS's business tactics, but Netscape/AOL took like 5 years to put out a new browser after 4.7. And do you guys even remember Netscape 6 Preview? What a god-awful browser that was. My friends starting calling it Nutscrape cuz it was so painful to use :(

Wow, now isn't that flamebait. I think Jobs has a few more qualifications than you do to run a computer hardware/software company. Honestly, you *must* have had some time in your life you're trying to find out something on the web and Google hasn't been able to easily find it. Another post used the example of the "red haired singer" which is a good one. If a search engine sorted all the websites into "CD Sales" "Performances" and "Tom Malone the Construction Worker" for that person, it'd certainly point them in the right direction.

Your response doesn't apply to most people. People don't want to learn how to work technology, they want technology to "just work" for them.

That's a terrible analogy. Your wife uses "fat" with a bad connotation, something she doesn't want to be. Further, most of the time she says she's fat, she wants you to say "no you're not."

On the other hand, "nigger", when used by blacks to describe themselves, sometimes doesn't have a bad connotation, and sometimes it does. Also, when blacks use that term to describe themselves, they usually aren't looking for the response "no you're not."

Personally, if the world were perfect and without racism, I don't think anyone would have a problem with anyone else using the term because it would no longer have much impact. But racism remains in this world, so it's important, IMO, to still remain sensitive to people who have to deal with it.

    Watch for the following pitfalls:

Parts of the game are worthless.
There are ways to do the opposite of what you're supposed to and benefit from it.
If the game includes secrets, there need to be tools to encourage players to keep them.
The game shouldn't "elminate" players slowly. Yes, I know monopoly does this, but those that are eliminated usually leave/sleep/watch tv and I think that's why games like Pictionary, Scattegories, or Trivial Pursuit are more popular.
Different, but not revolutionary. Just like most video games, you're better off doing a variation of something most people are familiar with than something new and/or complex.
You need to be able to sit down, read the rules, and understand the game in under 5 minutes.

    Good luck.

Home & Garden Channels using Sponsors Products
    Live News Channels

    Subscription:

    Debate News Channels

There's only three ways for stations to make money. Ads, In-Show Ads, and Subscription Fees. Unfortunately, it's my understanding that in-show ads are currently not allowed. See, everyone here complains about commercials, but a long time ago people felt that was better than having their favorite show butchered by an in-show ad. How would you like it if Kiefer Sutherland suddenly started talking about how much he likes his new Colgate Toothpaste?

I think the bigger issue is: How will this affect channel lineups? Will we see Sporting Events shifted toward networks-only and most network contect shifted towards a subscription based model?

Rules need to change. Everything needs to change. As with most technology, let's just shut our eyes to its impact and hope it works out. That's what I'll be doing with my Tivo.
