Oh well. I pay $40 for 200 whenever, 1000 weekend minutes. I get unlimited SMS and unlimited GPRS data, no roaming charges anywhere in a nation of 300 million people that's 3x larger than Western Europe, and no long distance charges in a similar area.
Hmm, this sounds pretty good -- who's your carrier?
So, I guess that means Netflix is crossed off my list. Does anyone have another DVD rental service to recommend? (assuming that this other company can survive despite the patent.)
I recently heard about GreenCine and they seem interesting. It's $21.95/month, but they have "over 10,000 titles, with an accent on indie, art house, classics, foreign, documentary, anime and Asian cinema."
I sought a second opinion and found this extensive review of DVD rental services at Stark Raving Normal. The guy seemed to like them: "GreenCine is my current favorite DVD rental service. The customer service people have been great, they have the best selection of anime that I have seen from a DVD rental place, lots of cult movies, sci-fi, horror, indie films, foreign cinema, and even a cool little online community of San Francisco movie geeks."
I don't work for GreenCine, but they're probably towards the top of my list at the moment. And, it doesn't hurt either that some of their profits go to film arts organizations.
How do you set default programs for different file types?... How come email attachements from Mac come with two identically named files? Or files with out extensions on them?
Well, don't just leave us hanging! Since I plan on buying a PowerBook eventually (perhaps by the end of the year), it'd be handy to know the answers to those questions:).
Threaded mail is a handy feature, especially when following multiple discussions on mailing lists. And, though Mozilla supports threading, it just doesn't remember the threaded expansion state.
So, you could turn on threading (View -> Sort By -> Threaded). Then, you'd probably expand the threads (View -> Threads -> Expand All Threads). So far, so good. But, if you switch to another folder and come back to the original one, the threads won't be expanded anymore.
This is bug 64426 and you can vote for it if you like (of course, you'll need a free Bugzilla account to vote). You may need to copy-n-paste the links into your URL bar, as Bugzilla doesn't accept referrerrs from Slashdot.
Yeah, that is the case (as another poster pointed out). See also this page (10 Big Myths About Copyright Explained) for a quick primer on copyright law.
This may be a little off topic, but I thought it'd be a good time to ask: Can anyone recommend a good free/Free editor for HTML? I'm not looking for a WYSIWYG editor -- just something that allows me to hand-code more easily (with syntax highlighting and the like).
My current favorite is probably Crimson Editor. Its big features include syntax highlighting (of course), a tabbed interface, and change detection (it notifies the user if someone else has changed the file on-disk).
Any others I should look into? I've heard the suggestions for jEdit, but it doesn't seem to have a tabbed interface (at least not that I could manage to activate). HTML Kit is another one that always comes up, but I don't believe it has change-detection:-/.
This is probably used for the new Tungsten C (to be released at the end of this month, so they say). In addition to integrated WiFi (w00t!) and a 400 MHz processor, it's also said to include at least 32 MB RAM.
Perhaps I missed it, but which mobile networks in the US offer/support this phone? (I'm on Voicestr^H^H^H^H^HT-Mobile, so I'm hoping that may be one of them)
The usefulness of smooth scrolling is that it allows you to scroll and read the text at the same time. I didn't realize that at first, either, but it really can make browsing more pleasant.
It's only a minor annoyance, but Mozilla doesn't yet snap to the default button in Windows if that setting is configured in Control Panel (when set, the mouse cursor should automatically move to the default button in dialog boxes). You might think it wouldn't be such a tough fix, but it's apparently ellusive:-/.

I have a Palm Vx at the moment, but I'm finding that I use Plucker more and more, which I figure would really benefit from a color screen. So, if you happen to be selling your (color) Palm, drop me a line:). (Plucker is a free offline web browser for the Palm)
I already subscribe to Reason, but you can give it a try with a free sample issue (as usual, if you don't like it, just write "cancel" on the bill). Their archive also has the full text from all issues up to Jan 2003, in case you're undecided about subscribing.
Now if only their page (or their staff blog) were more Plucker friendly;). (Plucker is a free offline web browser for Palm)

Corner panels with auto-hide is like tabbed browsing in my opinion. Once you try, you don't go back.
For those of us that haven't used them before, could you explain what corner panels are and how they're used?
I rather liked Q*Bert, and I've been trying to find a freeware clone for the PC (win32, in this case), but I just haven't found any (and, no PC Bert isn't really applicable since it's just DOS game). Any suggestions?
Along those same lines, I'm also a big fan of arkanoid. Any recommendations on PC clones there? I've already discovered the excellent DX-Ball 2 but I've beaten all the included levels (and extra levels aren't free).

The usefulness of smooth scrolling is that it allows you to scroll and read the text at the same time. I didn't realize that at first, either, but it really can make browsing more pleasant.
You can enable smooth scrolling by adding this line to your prefs.js file (while Mozilla isn't running).
user_pref("general.smoothScroll", true);
However, it's not entirely useful since Mozilla will crash when you try to scroll horizontally if smooth scrolling is enabled. In any case, here's the bug discussing whether smooth scrolling should be enabled by default (which I think could make sense, once that horizontal-scrolling crasher is fixed).

I not currently employed, so I wouldn't be able to buy it right away. Perhaps in a few months, things may be different.
In the meantime, if the other guy has given a reasonable offer, I would not be offended if you were to accept it.
Seriusly I bought my ibook and i'm thinking that my next laptop will be a IBM with XP.
If you decide to sell it, I may be interested in buying it :).

You are setting the DPI in Mozilla itself, right? (Edit -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Fonts -> Display Resolution)
In addition to the Slashdot Meetups, there are plenty of other cool Meetups as well, such as Digital Cameras, Home Theater, Metal, and even tea. Give some of them a try, especially if you live in Dallas ;).
