Argh - it's so sad that you had to explain the joke - plenty of people got it ;-)

Seeing as how John Rhys-Davies is credited with playing Gimli and Treebeard, it looks like we will have at least one Ent. ;-)

Well, I love Virtua Tennis and all (just about the most fun four-person console game I've played), but ya'll know PONG beat all of them to the punch.

I mean really, what is Virtua Tennis but a fancy-pants version of PONG? ;-)

As long as you have it on vibrate and actually leave to take the call, there's no problem. It's the people that actually answer and say "Hey, I'm at the movies. Yeah, Spider-Man. Yup it's really cool. Ooh, he just did that thing...yeah, that thing! Hey are we meeting at Fuddruckers later? Cool. Bye." Now THAT'S annoying.

I get the feeling that there are many people out there that just can't grasp the basic concept of how going to the movies politely is supposed to work.

That strip was right on target; I found this rant that really sums up a lot of it as well.

  9. Re:General Cinema Framingham, MA on Star Wars Digital Projection Theaters · · Score: 1

I think you might be able to take commuter rail out there but it would still be a hike to the theater - or maybe if you got on the airport shuttle bus :-)

I used to go there all the time when I lived in boston - it's about 10-15 minutes west on the pike. Unfortunately, I moved before they finished these fancy new screens. Darn.

I'm pretty sure the SatPro 4600 has an option for "built-in" WiFi. What this means is that all models have an antenna built into the lid, but you have to pay extra to get the actual wireless network card installed (not PCMCIA - I think it goes somewhere else inside the case, kinda like the way the iBook works).

I know this because we have several here at work and several users got their hopes up because they thought they already had wireless access built in when it turns out it was just the antenna. Oh well.

I'd really like to see more laptops with built-in non-PCMCIA 10/100 ethernet, modem, and wireless, just to avoid all the extra dongles and pop-out Xjacks and bulging wireless PCMCIA cards. Keeps your laptop clean!

  11. Re:The Japanese Film was in turn a rip-off! on Star Wars as Pulp Sci-Fi · · Score: 1

Seven Samurai has some elements of "old" Westerns - I would need to watch it again to be sure, but I'm positive that the DVD commentary on the disc (by some film professor) explains something about how Kurosawa was a big fan of the old Hollywood westerns (John Ford, etc.) and that he wanted to duplicate some of that in a Japanese historical context - thus we get a great movie like Seven Samurai, which is than later borrowed back into a western - amazing how that works out!

Users like you are why IT department employees aren't allowed to carry 2x4 cluesticks. Did you ever think that there are good reasons for having that stuff installed on your computer? Or that it's not even your computer in the first place? Or that maybe you should spend some time actually working and not trying to bypass security procedures?

Sheesh. Try that at a place with a usage policy and a halfway competent IT department and you will find yourself out a job. And if you feel so strongly about such restrictions, why work at a place like that anyway?

Well you probably have already read some of the other comments (or, amazingly enough, the article itself) that would answer your question, but just in case, they are referring to the comic book characters that exist in comic books from a company called "Marvel" - Spiderman, Captain America, The Hulk, etc. (and not Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. who are all from a competing company, "DC").

I don't think it's always consistent, but for the most part, all of the characters in the "Marvel" group exist in the same imaginary "Universe" - they interact with each other (and in case it isn't complicated enough, they occasionally interact with characters from the DC "universe").
