Scandals around gasprom is well known. Even martians know that russia is a state that is run by mafia. I dont think that these grunts would care for environmental concerns.
US (and quite many other countries) are also run by mafia. Just different kind of mafia. So, point is...?
... and all I had to do to solve it was go to Realtek's site and download the latest version of their driver. Problem solved (knock on wood).
Yes, that makes perfect sense.
Download new audio driver in order to fix the problem introduced in auto-installed security patch for a vulnerability in a Windows feature 99% of users never heard of.
Why did you allow private info from ASCN forums to be posted on eve-online forums, yet when info from BoB private forums showed up, it was promptly removed and new rules were set?
Please don't pull the "BoB info was from hacked forums" story, since there is no evidence to support that theory, and for all we know BoB also hacked ASCN forums in order to gain information. It's simply hard to prove, so - why double standards?
At this point, noone knows how your game works. Not even your developers, which can be seen by recent scandal of shooting through POS shields, where GMs/devs gave different answers, and it even went so far that dev claimed it was a 'feature'.
Why is it a 'feature' when BoB is found out guilty of using it? Not even a 'bug', but a 'feature'?
Why you ignore any questions in regards to banning SirMolle, for posting someone's real-life information on forums? Yet you decided to ban others who did the same?
Is it because he's the CEO of alliance that houses biggest number of CCP developers? Or he is also developer, and they don't need to follow rules that we mortals need to?
BoB used same tactics during war against ASCN (they were posting private info, details from private forums, recorded and made publicly available sessions from TeamSpeak). Noone was ever punished, in any way, for publishing all those things. For all we know, they might've as well hacked the forums/TS.
When information from BoB forums was published on eve-online forums, those threads were deleted swiftly by moderators, yet other threads (which contained information about ASCN and other alliances) remained on forums. Immediately after that, new "rules" were introduced, so BoB information could not be published anymore.
BoB then started whining how Kugutsumen hacked (without any real evidence) their forums, yet Kugutsumen claims he has received forum db dumps from BoB member. Same like BoB claimed they received ASCN forums/TS user/pass combination from ASCN members.
Those db dumps contained info which leads to conclusions that devs might have abused their position/knowledge/etc.
It led to disclosure of identity of at least 1 developer, who was BoB member. CCP then decided to ban Kugutsumen and all his accounts, on basis that he published real-life info.
Leader of BoB (Sir Molle) published Kugutsumen real-life details on eve-online forums, and guess what - he hasn't been banned, he is still playing, nothing has happened to him. Explanation? "He modified the post later on, and removed the details". Never mind that zillion people read it, and that CCP's policies do not have provisional "Publish and then edit" rules about posting real-life info. For BoB, there is always a way out.
Db dumps also contained information about BoB player purchasing account for real-life cash. However, nothing happened to him either.
Db dump also contained information about BoB knowingly allowing macroers to run plexes in their space (so they could sell virtual currency on eBay, for real money). Nothing happened.
Basically, BoB is trying to pretend as if nothing ever happened, and they have never done anything wrong.
At least 1 developer has revealed his identity to BoB members, and neither BoB nor him have notified CCP about this (CCP's policy is that dev's identities/accounts must be kept secret - if they're revealed, accounts are terminated). That player (developer) was also in charge of BoB capital ship fleet.
CCP has NOT answered to many questions from EVE community. They ignored all the questions, made bold statement which says nothing, and tried to 'forget' the whole issue.
(no, I am not affiliated with that site, nor do I really care about it - I am just glad we, EVE players, got a chance to see information about things we have suspected for a long time - especially those of us who were in war with BoB, and witnessed many many many 'strange' things which GMs would always classify as 'bug' or our 'dreams').
For a second there, I thought Slashdot would drop this stupid anti-Microsoft bullshit and at least show some compassion.
Oh... yeah, I'm full of compassion for a guy who knew what he was getting into.
Meanwhile, I don't care about insane number of children dying every day because of war, hunger, torture, trafficking - and who have no choice in their lives.
Actually, the courts have already ruled that Boris Berezovsky cannot be returned to Russia, so even if there was the political will to return him, it seems unlikely that they could do anything about it.
Fair enough, but why would UK then expect Russia to extradite anyone to UK? It's damn confusing. Are they just playing "diplomatic" games here? Or they have to officially make these requests even if they know it won't work?
is anyone suprised? I can see how having some temporary storage for files that is totally anonymous *may* have some legit uses occasionally, but if you allow people to anonymously upload any content to a site for free, and other people pay a monthly subscription to download multiple files up to 100MB a time, is *anyone* even remotely suprised when 99% of the content is illegally shared content?
On the Internet, people see what they are looking for. Then they base their conclusions.
I'm using Internet since '91 (roughly - since X.25 Internet gateways started showing up in numbers), and I have never ever seen child-porn on the Internet. Because I never looked for it. Many people never saw pirated software (or "illegally shared content"), because they never looked for it.
You'd be surprised by amount of normal/legal/valid data being uploaded to such services (RapidShare, Megaupload, etc), simply because it's convenient. Bandwidth might be cheap, webspace as well, but when you're behind a firewall (which you don't control) and need to make some file available quickly, services like this are useful.
You also forget that 95% of Internet users are not geeks, with access to their own dedicated server or hosting service - they're barely able to use basic things on Internet, and telling them to setup their own website in order to share a file is bit... silly.
Most of my real-life friends have absolutelly no clue what bandwitdh is, or what server is - they only know how to get online, check their mail, browse some sites. Most of them never heard of FTP, torrent and other buzzwords. So, for them, ability to share a file in such a simple way (click button, choose file, wait a bit - done) is a gift from the heaven.
Maybe US citizens see Bush as a hero or a great president, but many in this world are expecting to see a trial (and death sentence, possibly) for Bush.
Troops under his command have killed dozens of thousands of civilians.
Of course, that trial will never happen, and US will keep on wondering "Why are people so upset about us?"
Not mocking US or anything, just pointing out that while some people see Bush as a hero, many others see him as a war criminal (of worst kind).
Will Sadam be executed or not - I couldn't care less, he's not a threat anymore, he has been 'neutralized'. Bush is still a threat.
Did the EU really find that most people do not associate the term spam with the spicy canned meat? I think we are still far away from that actually occurring. They may have a point internationally. However, the term "spam" is still strongly associated with both unsolicited email and the ham product in most English speaking person's minds.
EU != 100% English speaking population.
I only learned that "SPAM" is some type of meat product after I tried to find out why (email) spam was called that way.
No, I have never eaten "SPAM" meat products. Sorry.
Then they should be like the D-Link routers and have an emergency ROM that lets you reinstall the firmware even if the router is bricked. Smart idea they have.
I'd rather have user NOT be able to brick the router uploading silly stuff, than having extra cost for router because of 'additional features'.
I am dead tired of receiving 'broken access points', which got broken because users uploaded custom-made firmware. I'd MUCH prefer to have device which you can't modify, thus saving dozens of hours in support costs.
..so those katyushas just magically appeared in the sky?...so Israelis magically appeared in "their land", years ago, maybe? Or there might be more to it?
I am disgusted by both (or better to say, "all") sides in that conflict, and anyone trying to show that one side is 'right' (or 'good') should examine their heads. It is called 'radicalism', and they can never admit mistakes on their part.
I'm not trying to troll, but maybe someone can help me by explaining what is so "incredible" about EVE? I played it once back when a trial was opened to the public and had trouble finding anything very interesting about the game. The game was large in the sense you could go many places, but it was constant flying back and forth. I never got far enough to do PvP, but I can't imagine it being heart stopping. Outside of fighting, you were stuck trading, mining, and building.
Is this just one of those games that caters to a group of players that are into the space war & trading style games, instead of fantasy style (WoW, et al.)? And this group of players just happens to be decently large and prevalent where I browse?
If you need to ask this after trying EVE - it's not game for you, I'd say.
It is extremely complex, and extremely addictive.
Death in EVE can actually cost you a lot, if you forget to set everything (clones) right.
Number of skillpoints means f*ckall, unless you're looking at 1v1 PvP fight. And even then, it's not guaranteed that high-skill player will win. Tactics and planning mean everything in EVE.
If you're in high-sec space, you'll be seeing miners, traders, mission runners and similar types.
If you have balls to move to low-sec space, you'll be seeing a LOT more action (pirates, better rats in belts, faction spawns, gate camps, carriers, etc).
Most of the fun can be found in 0.0 space.
But what you need the most is - patience. Everything in EVE requires planning. Your trips, your mining session, your hauling sessions, ship fitting - everything. So, no patience = no fun.
I'm not sure what Gates's net worth is at the moment, but let's say he's got 40 billion in the bank, which is probably about right.
Doh... urban legends.
He has lots of shares, which amount to XYZ dolars. If shares go down (which they will, when fines start coming OR if someone sells big amount of shares), his wealth will go down as well. Not that it'll make him poor, but it WILL affect Bill Gates and all other shareholders.
Here's a newsflash: In most of Europe, you are far more "watched" than in the US.
Would you mind defining "most of Europe"? I don't see anyone watching me right now, nor did I see anyone watching me today when I was outside. Are they now using some invisible cameras, or secret agents are following us all?
I don't get it. I've used Internet since '91 (before that I've used X.25), and in all this time, I have never seen child pornography. Anywhere. Ever. And I spent incredibly lot of time on the net, for the past 15 years.
I've also never seen porn, unless I was looking for it.
So, how do these all people come across child pornography, if they're not actually looking for it?
Why I don't see child pornography when I search for "802.11g wireless access point" - what am I doing wrong?

Dear me, Slashdot is really full of experts on just about any topic. Real nice.
I only wish those experts would, for a change, start argumenting their claims...
Since I'm using HSBC online banking, I froze when I saw the headline.
Now I am laughing.
Will we also see headline saying "All online banking system have flaws" (without adding '...assuming you have keylogger on your machine')?

As opposed to countries that systematically kill population of other countries (uh, who might that be)?

A single line of c:
t = 0;
Inserted between lines 147 and 148 of file fflush.c appears to be the fix (reset a mem pointer just use above).
If you bothered to check patches (available on sendmail.org), you'd see that there is more in a patch than a single line.
