This is a bit of a shock, really. RDRAM *is* a half decent solution for some high end boxes. That article from the windbags over at Tom's Hardware showed (kinda) sucessfully that there is a great deal of potential in RDRAM. I am an AMD / DDR user, but I have to admit that the P4 with a 133x4 bus is damn nice.

Tell me on thing. The setup Tom tested (P4) - would you consider it to be a server machine, or a workstation machine? The 'line' between what gets to be desktop strength machine, and what gets to be server strength machine is fading away, and to me it looks silly that Tom tests Sandra and office suite on such a monster.

I think he should've tested Oracle (and other 'heavy' stuff) on it, and show us the performance gain then. I don't really think people will be buying such P4 config just to get few hundred frames in Q3...

The problem is that vast amount of stuff IS INVENTED, but people just don't give a flying f*ck (or don't know) about patenting it.

A friend of mine modified (some 15 years ago) bloody pinball machine to 'shake' every time bumper was hit. Does it fit into 'force feedback' patent? If he spent some more time with lawyers (and if he lived in the US) he might have patented it and who knows what kind of 'aparatus' that would be today (interpretation, interpretation).

Similar is the story with 1-click ordering. There were many people who either did it before Amazon or were playing with it, but MANY people (me included) dumped such idea because of a very simple reason - you don't want to store credit card numbers on your server (if you care about security - yours and customer's). It took someone big (Amazon) to do it and ignore security aspects - and they got a patent (at the same time their PR machine managed to convince many people that "it is secure" - bollocks).

Actually, most of the 'pirated' CDs that people buy in Eastern Europe are not "Britney Spears" or "Ricky Martin". Big majority of CDs was split into: 'oldies' (think Peter Gabriel, Police, Sade, FGTH, etc.), jazz (a *lot* of Jazz), classic, and quite a lot of 'ethno based' music (South American being most popular).

I actually couldn't see any Britney Spears CDs when I was back there (EE) few months ago. Very few people there listen to such music.

That makes me wonder even more why the hell is US being so cocky about 'pirated music', when lots of it isn't originally even published by big recording companies...

I can't remember that CERN, Nokia, Siemens, Fujitsu and thousands of other companies/universities ever asked US to 'transfer development efforts' to them. You think US is in the center of the Universe, don't you?

Otherwise our standard of living, which is probably the highest in the world, will get lower while the rest of the world's gets higher.

I presume you travel/work experience consists of holidays on some islands, and work in your city, right!? If you think you have the highest standard - you're dreaming. Have a holiday in Singapore or Sweden, for a change...

Sad reality is that many people simply 'ignore' Americans these days, for a very simple reason - they think they know everything about everything, and they think they have right to give 'lesssons' to other people about culture (Britney Spears, yeah), democracy (that's my favourite), communism (although 99% of Americans don't even know/understand concept behind communism), creativity (read European/Asian newspapers, and then judge - don't make judgements purely on reading US newspapers), etc.

Bottom line is - you insult people every day because you don't understand what you're talking about, and yet you think you're "doing them a favour", simply because you read something in the newspaper. Pretty sad...

Mission speakers are extremely nice, although you might want to consider getting subwoofer if you have bigger room. Onkyo is outstanding - has THX, DTS and all the bells and whistles you need. I would buy it only for 'All channel stereo' - it is *amazing* (Denon AVR-2801/3801 also have all channel stereo, but Onkyo really sounded better).
