    I gave my notice three weeks ago to my contracting company. They in turn notified the person to whom I reported at the client. That person then accused me of being unprofessional for not telling him I was leaving and told me to immediately leave the building and consider that my last day. He did this by email and didn't come into the office, talk to me or apologize when he was told that I went through the proper channels by notifying my employer and having them notify him. As a result I lost a week's pay.

So, if it's a problem of reading comprehension then it's a mutual problem. And I'm light. I could give a fiddler's fart about the whole thing...

    You see, that's your problem for not reading correctly. I said "It's your second name in numerical format now..." I never said anything about encoding. What I DID state was that your second name in American society is your SSN. Hence, a name in numerical format.
    Me not reading correctly? No. You not speaking clearly? Yep, quite obviously.

    So, IOW, you have no support for your claim. As I already pointed out, my children (which have the same second name as me) do not have any sequence of their SSN that matches mine or each other's, which shows your claim to be wrong.

    "The Social Security number is a nine-digit number in the format "NNN-NN-NNNN." The number is divided into three parts...The first three digits are the area number....The middle two digits are the group number....The last four digits are serial numbers. They represent a straight numerical sequence of digits from 0001-9999 within the group. (Wikipedia search 'Social Security Number')

    Notice there's absolutely nothing about any part of your name being encoded in your SSN.

    Now, perhaps you can explain how "living in freaken American your whole life" makes you an authority on how SSNs are created? Because right now your statement is so much nonsense...

    You SSN *IS* your identifier. It's your second name in numerical format now.
    No, it's not. My children do not have any matching sequences of numbers compared to either themselves or to mine. So, would you mind citing a source for your claim?

    Telus should be able to provide or not provide access to websites as they wish, unless they've agreed otherwise with their customers (or have been given a monopoly by the government).
    And, as soon as they start controlling the content of their network then they become responsible for the content and are no longer a common carrier.

    You are missing the point.
    No, I got that point, and I responded to it. It doesn't "just work" on pretty much any software system that you have to assemble yourself. You have to get the appropriate software to get it to work and install it. That he couldn't says more about him than it does about Linux, is my point. If he wants to go to a closed architecture, that's his prerogative, and I don't fault him for that. I only fault those who think his doing so is somehow indicative of there being something wrong with Linux. That conclusion's non sequitor.

And, at any rate, the point is are we supposed to be lemmings who follow the preferences of individual programmers or follow what we each individually prefer and find makes us the most productive? If one guy, no matter who, decides to go to another OS should we all do the same? And, anyway, if he can't get sound and video to work on Linux, he's not all he's cracked up to be. I'm just a lowly web and mobile programmer of no great fame, and even I got both sound and great video working with little or no major effort. If he can't do it, maybe he's not all that great...

    Family Guy is a hilarious show that combines raw humor with social commentary; I'd almost classify it as 'Simpsons for grown-ups', if it wasn't for the fact that everyone loves the Simpsons.
    IOW, it was a great show which got canceled, which is exactly what the OP implied Fox tends to do. I'll go further and throw out two more examples: Brimstone and Roar!, and how they ran The X-Files into the ground...

    Compile times? Java's pretty speedy compiling. Than again, I dont have a 286. Will say this though: Make is a hell of a lot quicker than Ant. Ofcourse you could always use Make for building java though.
    Why would you want to use Make? With Make it would load javac for every single class compiled which is terribly inefficient and slow. With Ant Javac is loaded exactly once and used to compile all classes.

    Did you ever notice that all modern cell phones have caller ID? Just don't answer! I know this is like sacrilege to those younger than I, or those debt free, but just don't fucking answer!
    Amen, bruthuh! I'm in the same situation; I use my personal mobile for work as well as personal calls. If my employer (or my former employer) calls when I'm not working, it's my choice whether I answer. If it's important, they'll leave a message. And, if the message describes a situation that's important enough I'll call back. But, since it's my time I decide when I will be available.

    TMobile has a GSM network too. So, when you fly international, you can just buy a SIM card and have a phone right away.
    Unless the phone is carrier-locked, which most TMobile phones are, by the way. You can't just swap SIMs unless you've had the phone unlocked. TMobile devices won't operate with a non-TMobile SIM.

    They do everything possible to keep people from downloading apps, tones, etc directly to the phone. No J2ME on any Verizon phone, as far as I can tell.
    The lack of J2ME/midp has nothing to do with Verizon not wanting people to download stuff to their phones.Verzion has and exclusivity deal with Qualcomm that they will only sell BREW-enabled phones. The only apps you can download are BREW apps.

Communism involves the control of the means of productions by the proletariat, usually in the form of workers council, which, in practice, equates to centralized government control. Any questions?
