* The self-discharge rate increases with temperature. NiMHs left in a hot car in summer will drain faster than those in a cool house. Single-use lithium style batteries can hold their charge for 5-7 years.
I wonder if they can improve on this substanitially or if it is a chemistry limit.
well their C and D cells suck but the AA's are pretty good energizer has out a new 2200 mAh (as commented by the other poster)
In a free market economy then the Big players should lose out to newer small companies which offer the products people want.
Agreed I don't think people actually look to do an ROI or something on a battery. Its the same situation with compact florescent lightbulbs. 35% of the energy usage plus they last 5 times as long, yet they aren't popular.
Why arent rechargable NiMH batteries more popular? These things should be flying off the shelf. The only application that they are not good for are products such as fire detectors where the NiMH self discharge would cause reliability problems.
Anyway they pay for themselves in less than 5 recharges (assuming 50 cents for non rechargable and 2.00 for a rechargable). Then you have at least another 100 charges left after that(they claim 500-1000). 100 charges * 50 cents = 50 bucks saved.
Charging time is not a factor anymore both druacell and energizer offer 1 hour and 30 min chargers. There is also a 15 min charger out there by Raynovac but you need to buy rayovac batteries (they include a chip).
The only barrier I see is high intial cost. I guess people only look at the short term.
Obviously the refill market will be interesting for these batteries. Will the manufacture try to make its money upfront or will you have to buy the special concentration of methanol from the manufacture.
If its the latter its time to fire up my companies GC mass spec and find out the concentrations.
Maybe the best way for companies to prevent refills wihout using their refills would be to build a sepcial refilling adapter for the fuel cell.
Anyway I hope they charge the price up-front on the fuel cells. And then offer refills to people who don't want to make there own solutions.
In fact all the toilet paper you use and all the paper you use, is made from trees which are broken down using NaOH and Na2S. Thats why paper mills stink so much.
Man I hate to be on the recieving end of a Denial of Service attack on Internet 2. 900 gigabytes of data/30 min from multiple sourses would be crushing.
Well Usually after a root canal you get the tooth filed down and crown placed over the tooth. The crown is usually ceramic outside (matching your teeth color) and gold metal for the biting part. The crown protects the leftover tooth from cracking. They should also last 15+ years.
I don't believe for a second that this system works. But your explanation is wrong, an electrical device is more efficient then a carnot engine.
A electrical motor or electrical generator are not transfering heat, they are not carnot engines. That is why fuel cells are more efficient than combustion engines.
That being said you still can't gety more energy than you put into a system (magnets or not).
I Haven't read the article due to slashoting but whenever someone says they are using the stored energy in magnets to improve the efficiency of a motor I don't believe it. I've heard the same thing before for perpetual motion machines. At least this guy didn't say it was 100% efficient.
Anyone ever play the CRPG game Mines of Titan. 1989 by westwood studios.
That game kicked ass.
The best part was learning how to use computers so you could hack yourself free tickets, clean up your criminal record and stuff.
Anyone else beat it besides me?

WRONG! Small pox has an incubation period and the vaccine is still helpful during that period.
Bruce Campbell kicks ass!
I did see one manufacture that had a NiMH 9.6V, I guess they added an extra cell.

Why bring back Kirk when you could bring back evil mirror kirk.
And quasi-evil goati wearing evil spock too!
Edit: Some produce methane
Come produce methane.
Aneorobic(no oxygen) treatment produces methane.
Most waste treatment plants I've seen use aerobic(oxygen) digestion.
Talking about self-discharge which is quite high.

The batteries can be recycled also.
They last longer then NiCd batteries.
Have higher energy densities.
No memory effect.
Plus they aren't toxic like NiCD
The big negative is that they discharge quickly.
First Fire the LASER POST!

Could somone explain how you get in at the initial IPO price offering?

I heard Gilette is sitting on a design for a razor with, get this, 6 blades!!!!
Alright everybody in unison say it like Captain Kirk in Wrath of Kahn. Khan!!!!
Asscroooffft!!!!!!
PS: Ass not Ash is intentional.
Until the planet becomes unstable and explodes!
"But hey, at least its organic."
So is botulism toxin and dioxin and PCB's. Just because something is organic doesn't make it good.
