In addition, I think its kinda fun. For example, when I was new to linux I was quite dissapointed that I could not watch my DVDs. I don't have to watch my DVDs on linux, I could pop them into my PS2. But it irked me that I couldnt play them with my computer even if i wanted to. There was a solution- XINE. Now, being new to linux installing this was no easy task. There were many dependencies to resolve, and lots of learning new commands. Once I got it working I didnt really watch movies on the computer so much, since I usually watch them on the tv. Most of the fun was just learning the technology and "sticking it to the man" so to speak.
Most people ignore the GIF compression threats True- and many more don't even know that there ARE restrictions. It's not completely logical to the average user that someone can OWN a format. Which to most people just means "three letter extension". Good luck with educating millions of people that.jpg is now something licensed, where before it was completely free use.
Thanks for the info! As someone who does not program for a living, I am very interested in NOT being the subject of complaints from real programmers when one day they have to read my code. I would primarily be responsible for webservers (few) and then all the web design and database stuff for a very small company. I know about sysadmin stuff for the linux servers, but am completely new to programming (outside of shell scripts) as far as applications and design is concerned. This book intrigues me because Perl is exactly what I am looking at to do the cgi stuff (forms processing db connectivity, and some of the other topics mentioned in the post above)
Could you reccomend some books to those folks that are interested in not becomming a bad programmer, if their intention is only to write perl as cgi and db connectivity? I know I would be interested.

AT&T is being smart here. Socially engineer me once, shame on you. Socially engineer me twice, shame on me. Granted, what with all the shenanigans that have happened in the past with AT&T and hackers (they dont seem to get along so well) it has been a great deal more than "Socially engineer me twice" for the folks at AT&T.
Oh that looks schweet. I have always loved the 5 seris because they are so slick, not to mention thin. Unfortunatly, I cannot justify the pricetag considering you can get a great processor and motherboard for that price at motherboards.com. I can always dream though.
The other point is that freedom of religion does not also cover freedom of lack of religion. Atheism is not classified as a religion, and is not protected under the human rights convention in the same way that a religion is. Odd but true. Good point. I think that someone should be able to be left to their own devices as far as lack of religion goes. Why try to make someone believe what they do not want to believe in? On the other hand, I really see little value (other than the thoretical value of saying you could do this) in spending your time "slandering" another religion in a completely unproductive way. If you have problems with the Church, fine, protest it. I don't think anyone really benefits from the vulgarity of this persons actions.
I have heard that it is extremely easy (or at least used to be) to crack passport accounts. See here. With MS' track record for system security, I wonder why companies would be willing to be involved in this sort of activity. If my bank made me use a passport account I would have to close my account (I know it said it was an option, but smaller banks may want to use this exclusively to save money on creating their own verification systems?).
I completely agree. Vote with your wallet. I have not bought a CD in 6 months or more, and dont plan to AT ALL. I just got an 80GB HD last weekend myself....;)
Is it still legal to make a backup copy on mp3 of CDs you bought? I think that is one of the things they want to stop anyway (see copyprotected CDs). Whats more, how can you tell if you burned that file to your computer from a CD or if you downloaded it? What if you burned it on ONE of your computers and then transfered it to another one of your computers? Where dose the insanity end?
China could be considered to have an overbearing communist government. I know that I would want to hack government satalites to show my dissaproval. It would be cool if it was some sort of anti-government message. (Sort of like in Johnny Mnemonic. It would be even cooler if the hackers 3' satalite was strapped to the back of a dolphin swimming in a 10x10' wave pool! hmmm...now where'd I put that dang 3' satalite...heeeeere flipper...)
If all human monkeys were like you, we'd all be dead. You are a great example of Darwinism at work, now politely go jump off a bridge. Animals with overgrown forebrain is right.
I like this idea. Wouldnt it be great if there was a support site that helped communities get together and build their own communications networks? With instructions, best practices, legal advice, and some sort of database with users etc so you can figure out what geeks are in your community to hook up with. It also a great way to make new friends!
I remember once accidently getting tabbed browsing to work...it was awesome! I cant for the life of me get it to work anymore (I am now using the 1.1a) release. Under the help section it just says [content to be provided]. Anyone have any ideas?
I think he was trying to be funny? Satire r00lz. LOL
The major detractor was the user interface, since it didn't feel like a Windows application.
File this one under "mindshare".
Whats so wrong with Religion inspired literature? Do you just have something against Christianity?
I allready activley boycott the RIAA. I have been CD free for like 7 months. And I try to talk everyone else out of buying them too.

I thought it was "forget networks" which makes more sense to me somehow.

Did you SEE the jump to conclusions mat?? I think you could prolly make one. Besides, it is horrible, this idea.

Yea, I didnt realize that either. I just always assume (oops) that most geeks are guys. Kinda like discrimination in a way.
allright!! a REAL reason to start brushing! geeks now have a good reason for some personal hygiene!
