If anything, capital letters are easier to read and fewer to learn (26 as opposed to 52). Foolish consistency should not cost $27 mil. Besides, where the hell did they come up with this budget. It translates to $100 per sign, seriously? All the while raising the subway fare every year...
I dont know much about networking, just the basics. Can anyone explain to me what does the frequency of the cable (cat 5 = 100MHz, cat 6 = 250 MHz) have to do with their respective top speed?
It made sense to me cat 5 is 100 MHz since it's 100 Mbps, but then how does a 250MHz link able to transmit 1Gbps? If frequency has no bearing on link speed, then why is it important?
So far as fair use policy goes, I think it's about time that the administrators realize that gaming is just another form of *productive* recreation like basketball or other type of sports. If a school feels fine about opening up its gym after school so kids can play sports, then what's wrong with opening up the computer labs so kids can also play games?
Oh, you misunderstood me. I was merely pointing out the fact that US is by no means THE standard when it comes to issues like freedom or such. I totally agree that China is far less democratic and free than most countries in the world. And as a Chinese-American myself, no I would not be happy to line in China until some changes take place.
Most of China is still very poor, and schools there (if any) have unimaginable budgets. In some remote areas, a kid would be fortunate to have a textbook. I wonder why can't US just give China all its old hardwares in *usable* form instead of smashing them. It really doesn't matter how old the machines are, some people will be glad to have it. It would be mutually beneficial in the end.
we didn't have the luxury of 0nes AND Zeros, we had ONLY 0nes. Yup, those were the good old days. No bugs like division by Zeros and all array indices start with 0nes!
But eventually we grew tired of having only 0nes, so we tried all we can to discover the mysterious Zero.
We were sooooo excited when we finally realized the way to get Zeros (and lots of them) is to get rid of our NES that's been consuming so much of our time. So we are left with 0!
Ahh, the good old days. Though it sometimes troubles me to see how kids these days forget the pain we went through to bring them the Zeros. All they talk about are Twos...
Seems like every great game will eventually be ruined by cheaters, see Starcraft, CounterStrike, ARC... I wonder if this wireless dartboard can detect cheaters (e.g stand in front of the board and stab it point blank, in order to up your stats). Hope the AI is smart enough to/ban such users. And maybe literally "kick" them by ways of a 10 ton hydrolic metal boot nailed behind the player's spot.
Wow, I'm a bit surprised about the data on playing EQ with a romantic partner. Then again, I wonder how romantically involved can you be with your partner, if he/she rather talk to you in EQ than to see you in real life.
I think the best answer depends on your boss' knowledge of CS. If he truly knows much about programming, you know he's fucking with you, (because he's asking for the world). If he's an idiot who only read about the buzz words, then you tell him to use C#, (because by the time he figures what if C# fits his requirements, you'd already have retired).

There seems to be a load of discussion on the actual functionalities and implementations of C#/.NET so far. But I think we should all take a step back and look at how MS approached the whole process of designing a supposedly platform-independent, net-oriented runtime system + language.
I think we all agree that being the language of the NET, security is of priority #1, way ahead of functionality and flexibility. However, to design any kind of secure system, it is essential that you make the strictest system, and only then relax the security restrictions to allow more functionality. But it looks like MS wanted C# to do everything, and then add security as an afterthought. It is dangerous to achieve security by incrementally restricting the system.
In my opinion, they shouldn't even bother releasing any anime movies until they decide to show Miyazaki's movies. It's like releasing ST Voyager without ever showing ST Nextgen!
I may very well get flamed for saying this on slashdot, especially this thread, but I NEVER PLAYED a single FF game, NEVER.
I bearly watched someone else play... total time logged watching = 13.3 min. I played RPG's before, both console but mostly PC-RPGs. I definitely go for the story more than anything. Well, under tremedous peer pressure, and the desire to join the majority, I've decided to start playing FF. But I have the following concerns, and hope some of you can help me out.
1) Since I have ZERO knowledge of FF (did watch the movie tho, and it's below my expection), I dont know which one I should start with. Should I start with FFX, or is there any chronological order to the series (Ultima comes to mind).
2) Which FF is the BEST, in terms of
a) Story
b) Character development
c) Original Gameplay (magic/combat systems, etc.)
d) Total enjoyment / amount of time needed to beat game. (Important ratio for someone with little free time)
e) Graphics
3) And which is the WORST FF game? I heard FF8 sucked due to its real-time rendering. So is there any FF that I should NOT touch?
Hope someone will give me a start on the FF serious.
And please dont flame me, or I might just to buy "Summoner" instead.
You gotta be kidding me. How many Japanese you know who can understand more than 30% of a Chinese newspaper article?
According to your logic, English speakers should have no trouble reading Spanish/French/German, since they use pretty much the same set of alphabet, and all rooted in Latin.
As I see it, there's a simple compromise to this whole mess.
The problem: China wants an apology, but US dont want to appear soft.
Solution: Have our great charismatic leader G.W.Bush express the following:
"After much consideration, both for the safety of of the crewmen, and the relationship between our two countries, we have decided to 'apolologize' to China for the accident..."
China will see it as a genuine apology, the mispronounciation is nothing but a typical trait of Bushist accent.
US will not feel bad and weak, as in their mind, Bush never truly "apologized".
Done

"A study by free anti-virus firm Avast found 99 infected legitimate domains for every infected adult web site."
Maybe there are just 99 regular websites to every porn site out there.
I bet you use up one of your hourly blocks reading stupid slashdot comments, not unlike this one...

So, to make sure you "discovered" something, you must:
1) intent to make a profit
2) gain exclusive control
3) completely crush your competition, even if they got there first

Americans and most westerns are often too subjective when it comes to freedom. In their mind, if US has a score of 6, then the scale would be 1 to 6.

Dont be so hard on these magazines, guys.
Maybe the editor's keyboard got messed up, and the key "p" stopped functioning.
Hey, without the '\', you may have to switch between '/', ':', and maybe even '#'! who knows.

What makes you think an average English speaker can distinguish the difference between TD and TR??
My point is that knowing english helps one to learn how to program, but does not really prevent non-english speakers from learning it quickly.
