I received training in beating polygraphs in the military. I would not use it now because I don't have anything to hide. But, the truth is they are easy to beat, as long as you don't "cave" when the they tell you afterwards that you failed. Polygraphs should be seen for what they are....."pseudoscience"!!! They don't work, are easy to beat, and with so many false positives they can destroy the lives of innocent people. I'm all for a ban on polygraphs!
It's amazing to me that so many people are worried about government snooping of their phone calls and emails. Everyone with half a brain has known about this since George Bush gained office through the Supreme Court and not by popular vote. All this aside, think for a moment........who is it that knows everything about you? Your likes and dislikes, your passions and fetishes, or, what you had for dinner! It's the corporations!!! They have been silently collecting information about you for years and no one seems to care. They are watching you, they are tracking you. In stores, online, and everywhere else. Americans think they are secure in their privacy, but, SUPPRISE!, you are not. The corporations know much more about you than the government. Just what do you think they are doing with this information? Besides targeting you to increase sales, they are probably in bed with the NSA and countless other organizations, sharing all that juicy info they are collecting on you. Even this post on Slashdot is probably going to end up in some corporate database to be shared with all the intelligence organizations who may be interested. As for me, I say; come and get me you assholes. As an old Marine vet, I just may meet you at the door with a 44 Magnum which even your bullet proof vests won't protect you from. Wake up Slashdotters! What would be so hard to establish internet sites owned by CBS, NBC, etc...., that aired HD content of current shows? I'm sure the techies could come up with some software which would prevent "fast forwarding" through commercials and would stop/erase the content if tried. The networks etc. could even reduce the amount of commercials while demanding a "premium price" on commercials which air on the internet site only. In this way, we all would win! We would be able to see those episodes we've missed and the network would still profit greatly from the reduced ads shown during the shows. Am I right or am I just dreaming that the networks could be so progressive?

Of course, it would be a lot more sensible to support education in the U.S. Even without said support, there are plenty of (and probably a glut) of qualified American IT graduates looking for jobs. But, it's more profitable for companies and corporations to use H1B loopholes to help drive down salary costs and maximize profits. When will the U.S. government start working for the American people and not the corporations?

You're exactly right! The short and simple answer to the USPS problem is to allow them to raise stamp prices to reflect true costs. The fact that the USPS has to fund their retirement plan for 75 years into the future is totally ludicrous. They're funding retirement for workers who don't even work for the post office yet! I do believe that the congress plans for the USPS to go belly up so that they can turn it over to private companies. What they forget is that once in private hands, they will be subject to lawsuits. And, if it does go private, will they be held to the same draconian rules now in place? I see this as a lose lose position for the American people. For once in many of your lives, call or text your congressman/senator and tell them what a horrible idea this is!!!
Windows and Linux have no problem with VLC. Also, neither does Android! VLC doesn't need Apple. I say, stop providing any software under a gnu license to Apple. If their software such as Quick time is so great, make them use that exclusively. They are the walled garden, aren't they? If they want to open the gate to their garden, then, great! Until such time, all this great software should be available only to open operating systems. Yeah, Yeah, I know all you Apple fanboys out there are thinking daggers at me, but, one question; Do you have to pay cash for any of these gnu licensed products obtained thru the App Store? If not, is Apple providing any money to the open-source developers who make this great software possible? I doubt it!!!
We do have someone of that caliber today. His name is Barak Obama. In spite of the horrible economy he was handed by Bush, we are now in a recovery. Even with the "vote against anything Obama wants repub congress" things are looking up. Wall Street, the darling of the repubs, is in record territory. The deficit is shrinking. And still, the repubs won't do anything except pass bills trying to stop the affordable care act and to stop the constitutionally affirmed right of women to make decisions about their own health. Frankly, I can't see why anyone would vote for the repubs anymore. They are as morally deficit as the KKK, yet, you still get old Joe six pack, driving around in his 1985 broke down pickup voting for them. I believe this is because of the cut-backs in education that the repubs sponsor, which attempts to keep the electorate ignorant and, the oft stated refrain; "If you tell a lie often enough, it sounds like the truth". George Orwell and his "Newspeak" is the Lord and Savior of the repub party. Fortunately, time, education, and the changing demographic of America will be the ultimate downfall of the repubs. Even the jerrymandering of the states voting precincts will ultimately fail as more and more blacks, latinos, and others infiltrate their "safe white precincts". It may not happen for the 2014 election, but, in 2016 and beyond, LOOK OUT repubs!!!
