That isn't quite true. Panasonic (I think?) has a Gamecube/DVD player that is supposedly selling quite well in Japan/Europe.

    KDE was amazingly simple.
just "emerge --pretend kde" to see what'll be installed.. then:
    "emerge kde"
It downloads the source for every part of KDE and builds them optimized for your system with your specifications. KDE isn't exactly a quick compile though. I did my X/KDE compile overnight.

  17. Re:It's true, you know! on A Walk Through the Gentoo Linux Install Process · · Score: 1

I personally think Gentoo is a LOT better than slack.
Biggest problem I have with Slack is knowing what to install during an initial install. Slack has a ton of stuff I don't know if I should or want to install selected as default, even in expert mode.
Debian and Gentoo have eliminated this problem by letting me install a very simple base system and installing programs that I know I want, getting the dependencies automatically.
It's great. A lot easier and newbie friendly.
Gets rid of the tedium too.

  19. the reason why RIAA hates music sharing on Ebert, Gillmor on the Music Industry · · Score: 1

It's very simple. The RIAA spends so much money shoveling garbage down our throats that even though record sales have been up overall over the last couple of years the RIAA is pissed that the bands they spend so much money on are losing sales. Major example of this is Mariah Carey's Glitter album. That album bombed so badly they PAID her to get the hell off their label so they wouldn't lose any more money.
Mp3s give the power to the people to choose and support bands they actually like, not bands that the RIAA thinks you should like.
Like Ebert said in the article.. the RIAA will lose even more money copy protecting the CDs by having Indie labels/bands/etc not protecting their CDs (because of macromedia fees I'm sure).
Maybe this is a good thing.. who knows.
    We'll see.
