"So, if "we" were "designed", I would have to say the big ol' G to the O to the D could have done a better job."
Depends on what the design specs called for. Most religions teach that God created man to teach him a thing or two and make him better. It's hard to learn any lessons while flying around shooting lasers out your eyes and being generally indestructible.
"I guess that after the way Valve has treated its customers, a lot of people don't see the problem in screwing Valve."
I really do see your point, but I think the logic it's predicated on is faulty.
Valve can't *do* anything to you, unless you buy their product, and that's a decision* you get to make. And FWIW, I haven't bought a game in years, but I don't dress myself up in the shreds of a moral tit-for-tat. I just play the warezed version and enjoy them.
* The only entity that can forcibly *do* anything to you is the Government. This anti-corporate nonsense is the best smoke screen corrupt leaders could ask for. "The best trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing people there is no Devil." The second best trick is to convince people that some other guy is the Devil.
"For every knowledgeable enthusiast, there are many more misinformed or incorrect speculators whose opinions usually spring from personal preference or a need to hear themselves talk."
Dude, you just described the entire Internet. Get on a *moderated* mailing list if you want a decent signal to noise ratio.
The guy couldn't slip it into neutral? Or park or reverse? I put a Toyota Corolla w/ automatic transmision into reverse once on the freeway and all it did was shut off the motor. No damage at all. Renault's website shows what looks like an automatic transmision gear shifter in that car.
Jim and James are giving away $100K each? Holy Crap, how much is HotorNot bringing in? And yeah, I (kinda) know about the marketing value of this, but it still means they have a $200K marketing budget for HotorNot.
Take the mail from your (Mailbox? Front step?) It will come in very helpful when you need to get a fish in your ear. Mods: if you don't get this, just ignore it, OK? It's on topic, I swear.

What I needed was a jet engine! "

Get a 6 dollar "cap kit" from www.therealbobroberts.com, get out the soldering iron and replace them. If it's your first kit, it'll take 2 hours and then you'll be playing Tempest again, they way it should be played. Vector games on raster monitors make baby Jesus cry.
The Dean campaign made a 2 tactical blunders. 1: They went after the worst possible demographic, with the possible exception of the homeless. I know they did it to generate "media buzz", but by becoming the candidate of the college crowd, he became distasteful to the people who actually drive politics. 2: They let Dean express his views. At least Kerry has the sense to (mostly) be "ABB". Being middle of the road wins elections for Democrats. Republicans can get away with being further from center for some reason. Probably because the middle aged, middle class in flyover country leans more conservative.
The reason the NRA's argument's work so well it that they are based on a correct principle.
Technology (guns/cars/internet/p2p apps) isn't bad, but people use it to do bad things.
Punish the people who commit the actions, not the tools used. You may not like guns/p2p apps, but no one has any right to take them away from a law abiding citizen who uses them in a lawful manner. Unless, of course, we give up our rights to groups that promise what they cannot deliver.
DN4 would be nice, but I'm still waiting for a *working* copy of BattleCruiser 3000 AD.
Working being the operative word here.

I propose a new acronym. TOTFL. Especially you D3 engine using designers.
Upside: No drug laws in space.
Downside: You still get the munchies.
You are right, Valve is becoming unpopular with some. I think the people getting mad at them don't have a legitimate reason, but they are mad.
:)
On another note, I think we just had a rational discussion on a web forum. We should be prepared to have our accounts closed if this leaks.

You don't use them to listen to videos, you use them to see music.

Mr. Cobb: your campaign seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train. Why are you so popular?

So that's what Al Gore has been up to!
And rig up a "knocker" like they used in the old Q*bert games, so there would be a real thump when the bird hit.

That whole last post was good, but that end part! Denying a charge of buzzword abuse like that; it's beautiful! Bravo, and well done.

What, he didn't notice the fireplace *before* he started the project?
