  1. Re:HEY on It's True: Some People Just Don't Like Music · · Score: 1

Absolutely correct. Seeding a Pandora station can really help expose oneself to all variety of new things. What I think is sad, though, is that there are not so much any more those good bands that "Everyone" is listening to, culturally. Seems like you have to be one of those people who cares enough about music to go find it. Otherwise, just listen to the same auto-tuned country music and over-compressed post-metal-garbage from your local Clearchannel wastehole.

Hey man - coming from a life long Zeppelin-man, and someone proud to call himself a person with broad, and (I believe) good taste in music - while it is true that there is no longer ANY mainstream-radio rock that is legitimate or good, there are, thanks to the democratizing effect of technology, a great many folks out there making incredible music. some of it very "indie", some of it touching the mainstream. Shouldn't close yourself off like that. At bare minimum, a Zeppelin man would love "White Denim" and/or "Gary Clark, Jr."... both from austin. But the thing that people like you and me need to accept is that rock is, for lack of a better term, dead. And by this I mean that rock isn't mainstream any more. It just isn't. It sure as hell isn't what "the kids" are into.

Logic/Cubase on the Mac, Sonar/Cubase for Windows. (My personal preference is Cubase). When this question was last asked not even 6 months ago, it was pretty well demonstrated that the state of open source DAW applications was fine for the hobbyist or the casual user, but if you want to do actual work, you need to get some real tools.

How does this get modded +5 insightful? You start making a reasonably good point, but then you move to " logic-blinded fanbois as customers who will buy anything you hand them just to look cool". I really don't understand it. It's one of two things, either 1) an excellent troll, or 2) you're another one of those undeservedly self-aggrandizing man-children who really is flat out emotionally incapable of understanding adult human beings, and how so-called "regular users" inferface with technology.. Either way, I really don't care for you much. Get this through your head: They use the product because they like it. It works for them. They enjoy it. People of all ages. Not just your buddies in the call center. The unlikeable sperg-lord sitting in the dark corner calling them "fanbois", obsessed with the perceived behavior: petty, shallow, trying "just to look cool" - yeah that's you. Grow up.

I obviously can't speak for the band Phoenix, but I enjoy their music and based on my personal interpretation of the "spirit" of their work, I find it hard to believe they would have ever endorsed this action. Of course they themselves didn't, it was certainly yet another of these industry lawyers at the ironically-named "Liberation Music" who is responsible. I'm only saying this because I imagine it has to be terribly frustrating for a group of musicians to potentially have their reputation and name damaged because of such a ridiculous abuse of the DMCA.

Look, not for nothing, but this summary really is exceptionally poorly written. "...while other atomic clocks are better than that, researchers suspect the optical lattice is better still..."? Is this the 10th grade? "Better than that" is how we summarize a new type of clock? Why don't we just throw style out the window and write that it's very, very, very, very, very, very, very good? Additionally, can we possibly have even a quick sentence to explain of why the optical lattice is "better still"?. I mean, I can obviously read the article, but frankly now I don't want to.
