"GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that Valve plans to have Half-Life 2 available on the Xbox during late summer in the U.S."
I know that all memory and logical comprehension went out the window when you saw the word "Europe", but try to regain full facilities before you post.;)
Check your credit report! I don't know if you ever want to have another car, house, or card again - but one thing's for sure - get that report and make sure everything's as accurate as possible.
I use PHP to handle common points of abuse (through worms or other related ignorance) and automatically run it through CRON on a daily basis to send that data off to the abuse accounts of the ISPs.
Incredibly enough, it HAS seemed to work. If only in the fact that I get few repeat IP addresses:)
In the setup I have, I use one script to catch all (via.htaccess redirects), with a MySQL backend to handle all of the data until cron.daily takes care of it.
*chuckles*.. It wasn't so much the 'artistic vision', I'm just saying that if the writers were asked to do this very same movie (not having done the previous one), it would have been done in a very different way, considering the franchise's place in history.
Well, I think the SMB movie bombed because the producers/writers didn't give a rats ass about anything other than the cash, and therefore had no respect for the franchise itself or the impact it has made in not only the entertainment world, but mainstream society as a whole.
Wasn't there a time when "Mario" was one of the most common household-recognized names/franchises?
Nintendo has come a long way since then in their realization of the US market's desires and market potential. If they were presented with the SMB script today, I feel pretty confident that it'd end up in the trash and they'd fly Miyamoto to the US to directly kick the writer(s)' ass.
Uh.. is it? Maybe you're speaking of finishing a game on a certain date, but many many games on systems with real-time clocks have used special content based on dates. Animal Crossing for Gamecube comes immediately to mind, however I do know there have been plenty more.
Yes, that was the only way I could raise the million(?) to get out of the first city!.... And of course, during one game it was the first and only thing I had to do. lol
Not even that -- they should have a host of free titles (your standard chess/checkers/etc), and then optional premium content which may include licensed games from other publishers.
To be honest, when I saw this introduced from the E3 footage, it really seemed as though that it was going to be an upgrade to Xbox Live itself where you would have a bunch of free content. Either I misinterpreted, hoped too much, or MS changed their strategy.
I think they'd do well with this scheme, quite honestly. $10 - $20 per game is just going to make it fail, and then everyone will say "Oh I guess nobody's interested in retro gaming anymore"
Was that Wrecking Crew? I loved that game. That was a pretty cool little puzzle game. How far along were in-game editors on other games at the time it came out?
While not 100% applicable to this situation, there's always http://www.rejectionhotline.com.. There are local numbers in many states. I think I might start using that.. (though I'd hate to be on the receiving end - call one of the numbers sometime. Ouch.:-p )
What's with the propaganda crap going around in media today? "Oooh, alcohol is good for you"... "Oh but marijuana has such a medicinal effect". I mean, hell - in the 50s, cigarettes were promoted for good health.
It's all harmful to your body - and to those who have to put up with the shit from people who use it.
If you want to screw yourselves up, that's fine - but at least stop trying to steer the rest of society into falsely thinking that these things 'help'. Avoiding the cliche 'think of the children', there are plenty of people of every age who are heavily influenced by society and media.
This type of spin is just as harmful as the substances in question.
I was just about to make a post of a similar nature.
When I leave my house, I have call-forwarding on my home line to go to my cell. I'd love a way for my outgoing cell calls to report my landline number, since that number will -always- get to me, whether I'm home or not.... and so that people don't call my cell when I'm home, since the big VZ doesn't have strong enough towers to give me a signal from inside my house.

My ISP used to block incoming 25, and Dynu was my primary MX that could use ETRN to send to "alternate" ports, much like DynDNS.
Now that my ISP has come to their senses and has allowed me to run a mail server, it makes a great inexpensive failsafe in case of routing or power outages.
And if so, what about the services that we've come to 'expect' out of a phone service: Call Waiting, Caller ID, Voicemail or other Busy Call Forwarding feature. I don't know if the 'ghetto rig' VoIPs have call waiting, but I'm fairly sure they all have a CID feature. That in itself is rather indispensible, especially these days of "PTIA" (Personal Total Information Awareness) and solicitors.
I highly doubt you're getting all of these things for $25 from a residential telco.
Interestingly enough, LOGO is still being maintained... lots of 'implimentations', so it's tough to figure out who is the 'official' developer and who has the spinoff.
Er.. From the first line of the blurb:

The player number is spot on, but his position?? "Right Wing"?
Proof that conservatives are the instrument of the devil!
Well, it's because Goddard is in Maryland, and nixing Hubble puts a lot of those workers out of jobs.
I believe that was summarized in one of the previous stories about Hubble on Slashdot.

Probably not anymore.... double-eww.

But good lord - all the incredible things that could be done in one day, in that case!
It's that damn metric system!

You mean the reference to "hl2_acf.nfo" didn't tip you off?
;)
He almost had me til I saw that.
Not only that, but ... what if you don't want to pay?
Does the government shut you down?
In that case, that means you have to pay the government to allow them to tap the lines, just to stay in business?
Isn't that like blackmail?
Isn't blackmail illegal?
What.
The.
Fuck.

I use Dynu's Email Store/Forward service for $20 a year.

This is MUCH less than $100/yr
Where do you get phone service for $25 anymore?
