I KNEW I forgot one of the Quest series...
    Police Quest.

That sorta spun off into their SWAT games, but PQ3 was a helluva game... one of the most graphic at the time, if memory serves.

I actually posted this directly after my initial comment, but the post timer caught me and I didn't see it :-P

It also gave me time to bring up Phantasmagoria. Wasn't that like... the *original* controversial game? It got pulled from shelves for its content (which wasn't.... anything.... at all, just more than what people were used to) - But the puzzle element was very cool, and not quite what you see in games today, save for perhaps.. Myst?

All in all, they heyday of Sierra rivals many modern publishers, combined.

  2. The old Sierra on A Critique of The State of Adventure Gaming · · Score: 4, Insightful

There was no better time in PC gaming than when Sierra was actively developing their Quest games.

Kings Quest (at least KQ 1 - 7)
Space Quest (This NEEDS a 7)
    Quest for Glory

These are what made gaming great. I absolutely loved their Robin Hood game, Conquests of the Longbow.

The only other game that was remotely as fun (though perhaps not as involving) as these was Grim Fandango from LucasArts.

Wonder what the Williams' (Ken & Roberta, the founders of Sierra) are up to these days, anyway. They need to get the old team back together and remind people why they were the powerhouse of PC gaming in its day.

That would require a much greater visual representation of characters than we've had in any game, ever.

If you meet someone in real life, you generally know how they'll match up with you - the tone of their muscles, weapons they're carrying, etc. Sure there are some surprises, but for the sake of argument, let's just assume you can get a good idea of what the deal is.

In games these days, usually you've got generic representations of the majority of items, skills, physical attributes, etc. of each character, and you can't really get a good look at them.

I imagine this will change shortly, the level of detail in games is fast becoming near-life-like.. However, it would take a considerable amount of effort and dedicated concentration in this very area for it to work...

I have some younger friends in my neighborhood, and their graduating class pretty much looks like something you'd see out of the cast of a new teen drama about California college kids. I think it also depends on what kind of content we're talking about.

There were absolutely TONS of NES games in its lifetime. Are they only selling Nintendo first-party games? Nintendo-published games? ... or the whole library?

I've got a non-working NES, with some games I really enjoyed playing - 'Shingen The Ruler' comes immediately to mind. Then on SNES we have the absolutely obvious Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana.

If these are available for download, then damn right I'd whip out some plastic and pay a couple of bucks to play (AND KEEP - NOT RENT) them. Same with countless other titles - we're talking nearly 2000 titles for just NES and SNES alone. Then we've got another.. uh.. 300? 400? for the N64 (of which maybe 25 are worth any amount of money, sadly).

Perhaps they will be scaled ($5 average, deviating up and down for the popularity/quality), and perhaps they'll all be flat-rate. But you'd be surprised, you say you wouldn't buy 30 games for $1 a piece, I'm willing to bet you'd find plenty of gamers who would.

Oh... you missed what I was saying..

I was talking about a testing to see if you could download previously-purchased content on another Xbox, using your account.

The best way to use your XBL account on another Xbox is to copy your XBL profile to a memory card, and keeping it in the controller when you connect. -- The other alternative is doing an XBL "Account Restore", which will invalidate your account on your current box, so it's not recommended.

I just wanted to see if it remembers your purchases, which would alleviate your concern.

As for the rest of your post, you're certainly right - there'd be no reason to purchase a mem card for the new Xbox, but I highly doubt that'd be the case. The Transfer CD is a nice thought. I had previously imagined there might be a way to do it over local network, but maybe a CD won't need to be involved at all?
