why 50/50? Why not 10/10/10/10/... or how about no party at all?
Because I like a good party now and then....
Even though I tend to be only slightly less liberal than Dennis Kucinich - I really like the summary definition of the Libertarian party... "There's no government like, well, no government."
So - MPAA would like to outlaw this one technology but is not seeking to also eliminate any or all of audio cassette recorders, 8-track recorders, CD R/RW, DAT, VHS, Beta, etc...
IANAL but... if I were the judge in this case I'd be asking why they think this one data archiving technology is any different from any other and... if they have any accommodation for content owned by the user.
From a memory management point of view Gates had a valid point there. As memory has become less expensive developers have become less concerned about memory usage.
Whether the end user notices or not - algorithm optimization is still a good idea.
The way I read that headline - "Drug Halts Decline In Alzheimer's" it came across as we were making progress in reducing the number of Alzheimer's sufferers and this drug puts the spank on that.
Actually, installing Ubuntu is way easier than installing any version of Windows on common hardware. I handed my 76 yr old Father in Law a Gutsy Gibbon CD in early December - intending to help him install. I got there the next weekend to find he'd done the install himself and even figured out how to configure his email in Evolution.
I've been asking since MS-DOS 3.0 - "Why the heck to I have to reboot after installing an application?" Windows has finally reached the point that most of the time. But this goes far beyond those improvements.
So, they want me to go to a brick-and-mortar store and spend $12.99 to buy a secret code that will allow me to download MP3s of one album that I could have purchased at that same store for, um, $12.99. Nevermind the fact that even if the downloads are all ripped at over 256kbps they're nowhere near the over 720kbps I'm going to rip from the actual disk in.flac or.ogg, and once you've downsampled in a lossy format there really is no going back to full quality.
Actually, not just MS sites are potential users, not by a long shot. The company I work for is examining ways to convert some of the functionality of our WebSphere serviced, Oracle backed POS application to offload some of the work to the client system at our locations throughout the country. Early thinking was to use AJAX but, that's only scratch on the surface for some of our functionality. A truly cross-platform, cross-browser technology that allowed bi-directional real-time communication would allow us to STOP requiring a Micro$oft browser on a Micro$oft OS.
I actually save my stuff in the OpenOffice native formats. I've actually been known to send OpenOffice files to people and tell them where they can get OpenOffice. There have been a few instances in which the recipient has absolutely insisted on the M$ format but, then they pitched a bitch about how long the download took and how much bigger the file was. ("Are you sure you didn't embed some sort of hidden stuff to make this file this much bigger?")
Fill that stinking piezo speaker with a drop of 2-part epoxy and you're all set.

Your Windows EULA prohibits operation in such an environment.
Hal is working on one of these already - that's why his first sentence has "quick" where the form "quicker" should have been.
I've got stored wind energy for you. Just visit my brother after somebody forgot and fed him chili.

Didn't the Muppets already do 'Pigs In Space?'
I guess they have to call it 'Amadinijad In Space'

Coincidentally, this is the date on which the Mayan Calendar rolls over.
I found the settings fix in Firefox 3 on XP Pro SP 2.
I had to allow JavaScript to modify the task bar text. Then I got the intended white background for that DIV element.

I was going after "no, what was misspelled was vi" but vi doesn't have the bloat that emacs requires to function as a runtime shell. 8^p
Cleveland Steamer's comment is much more disturbing if you don't read/follow the link and you read it as the child of QRDeNameland's comment.
Just what nobody needs - nicely framed images of goatse and tubegirl.
Rent a gas powered trench digging tool for a weekend. Most places that have heavy tool rentals should have one, or know where to find one.
Could we please call this GSF/GPL mega-corporation The Umbrella Corporation?

All of the 'correct' responses are favorable to Microsoft. Duh.
(Fact) Fiction
What would you expect? It's a marketing piece.

For the second application you need urine from a Targ.

I really admire that you have not yet been tainted by competitive consumerism and real world cynicism. Let us know how you feel in another 5 years.
Don't get me wrong here. I'm all for the quest for knowledge and personal growth. Unfortunately, most of U.S. society doesn't live that way.
Somebody mod this person up for getting it.
Who owns the patent on this method and, will we all be expected to pay licensing fees?
