Say you're a web developer and outsource your filtering to a human in India. What's stopping them from taking an incoming job lead, accidentally forwarding it to a local web shop paying them for referrals, and pleading ignorance if you question a missing message?
Oh, and sorry to double-post, but I was contacted by Google's AdSense Optimization Program recently. Their advice for one of my sites was to actually make the ads look as much like the content as possible - confusing.
They are only offering partial credit because usually their worst case scenario is that people hold out for a better offer (costs them nothing to try the low deal), and that the majority would take that offer.
If you're in the right, always hold out for a better deal. I have countless examples of exactly that. One of them - Dell were late in delivering a laptop and screwed something up. They apologised, but refused to budge. At one point I mentioned that I was considering the purchase of an Axim, but they could forget about that. They offered me a small amount towards an Axim - many would've jumped on that offer. I said, why should I fork out for a product just to receive the credit that I should be getting for the inconvenience anyway. Next offer: they mailed me the top of the line Axim with accessories for nothing.
I have since bought another laptop through them too.
In case that was a serious suggestion, let's assume that someone starts a company in Bangladesh offering a filtering service that was completely manual - virtually no spam gets through and nothing legit gets held. Say they're getting paid SFA.
I'm a web developer. I routinely get enquiries via email for new business. Now, say someone gets in the ear of these Bangladeshis and offers them just a little bit more to accidentally divert business enquiries to their off-shore solution? See the problem?
Better to imagine a Ferrari or Lamborghini that is a brilliant automobile, but isn't suited to city driving, or trying to park with poor rear visibility, etc.

He's reviewing a title made exclusively for a Microsoft console - anything less than picky and he'd get ripped in the comments. I think it's a reasonable review, matches what I've read elsewhere, and I am now thinking about getting a 360 sooner than planned (I get a lot of value out of my current Xbox!).
While in this article they're reported to be bigger than the size of a house, there was another news piece this morning about one nearing NZ that was 100m tall and another that was around 300m long - frickin' massive houses...
Slashdot is far from ideal but the majority of the audience isn't quite people hearing about the site via word of mouth, radio, etc. It's via email and links on forums.
Wherever possible, pick a name that is easily read in an email or understood when read out over radio, on the phone, or in conversation. Also, easy to remember and spell.
But almost $2b later, I can't imagine that the founders care all that much!
These people are clowns. Hit them with financial penalties.
The amount of racist comments made on the internet by people hiding behind anonymity is astounding. You see tonnes of it on forums and sites like YouTube. How people get off on that, I have no idea.

Thieves are going to love that wallet - it'll highlight a puny nerd from afar!
Unfortunate name if it were to be rolled out in Australia where someone soundly inebriated is said to be "paro" (from 'paralytic').
e.g., "He was paro last night."
Have responded to this idea before.

I saw another site use this technique of placing thumbnails above text ads and gave it a shot. It doubled the number of clicks I was receiving.

Not sure what to make of this news. I was quite happy earning the extra money, but I'd rather not have my account switched off.

I like how a post including the words "eat your neighbor's kidney with a nice chianti and some fava beans" has been moderated Interesting!
Happy ending? Didn't you notice her braces??

Agree 100%.
Have had mine for a few years and get loads of use out of it. Loaded up with games, movies, Family Guy episodes, etc. Bargain of the century.
Still play Halo II with friends, still play a lot of FIFA World Cup 2002, Fusion Frenzy, etc.
Only when you can hack/mod the 360 quite easily will I 'upgrade'.
